    Hi Janet,

A runtime error is a software or hardware problem that prevents the program from working correctly. I would suggest you to try the following methods and check if it works for you.

Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try to resolve this problem.

    Method 1:

I would suggest you to run the sfc/scan which would repair the corrupted files and check.

The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions. When the scan is complete, the System File Checker tool indicates whether integrity violations were found. If integrity violations are found, the System File Checker tool lets you fix the integrity violations. Refer to the following article to know how to do this.

Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files

    Method 2:

I would suggest you to install all the Windows updates including the optional ones and check.

    Follow these steps.

    a.      Press Windows key + W and type Windows Updates.

    b.      Select Check for Updates which will show the list of all recent updates those need to be installed on the computer and then you can install them.

    c.       Press Windows key + W and type Windows Updates.

    d.      Select Install optional updates and then select Check for updates.

    e.      Now wait for a while when Windows looks for the latest updates for your PC.

    f.        If updates are found, tap or click Install updates.

Method 3: Perform clean boot and check.

Clean boot will help us identify if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue.

To do this, follow steps from this link:

NOTE: After checking the functionality in clean boot, follow the suggestions under “How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot”.

    Thank you for your help.

The error message appears when I open the photos app.

I can not access the photo app from the start screen

the only change I made to the computer was the windows upgrade to 8.1

While searching out this issue, I found a statement that windows 8.1 does not support the Photo App.

could this be the reason for the error message?

    Thank you

    Janet

    Hi Janet,

If you could answer a few questions it would help us to resolve this issue:

    1. When exactly do you get the error message?
    2. Are you able to access the photo app from the start screen?
    3. Did you make any hardware or software changes to the computer prior to the issue?

Runtime errors can occur if you are running two software programs that aren't compatible or if your computer has memory problems.

Please write to us with the exact details of the issue and answers to above questions, so that we can assist you better.
