Task Scheduler - Event upon new device/device connect

I wish to create a task using the Task Scheduler that is triggered upon the detection of any new hardware device (like what would show up in the Device Manager) or even for a specific device. I haven't been able to use the Event Viewer to find when the event occurs, nor have I found a database of various basic system events. What would an event like that be called, and what is its Log/Source/Event ID (for use in Task Scheduler)?

    1. I don't know what the event is called. I am very unfamiliar with the Event Viewer. The event I believe I want to use as the trigger is an event that occurs when a hardware change is detected (like if an additional display is connected or if a USB device is inserted). I assume this is some sort of Windows/System event, but I don't know.
    2. By "database" I mean some collection of information that explains all the standard system event, and what they mean. I had hoped that information might be available online, at some Microsoft site.

I want this task to be triggered only when a hardware change occurs, like if a USB device is connected or disconnected. It does not have to be a specific item of hardware, only that some change (ANY change) has occurred.

    Thanks!

It's unfortunate that the only response to your query is one that showed no time taken to understand and respond with applicable information.   Just another generic response that seems to be triggered by key words with apparently no comprehension of the content.

I came here hoping to find an answer to a similar use case, it's too bad one does not exist.   Maybe with my additional post here someone from Microsoft or another expert might actually attempt to answer the question with meaningful information rather than the out of context response from Srimadhwa B,

    Hi,

    1. When you say “I haven't been able to use the Event Viewer to find when the event occurs”, which event are you referring to?
    2. When you say “nor have I found a database of various basic system events”, which database are you referring to?

I would like to let you know that if you use a specific program on a regular basis, you can use the Task Scheduler wizard to create a task that opens the program for you automatically according to the schedule you choose. For example, if you use a financial program on a certain day each month, you can schedule a task that opens the program automatically to avoid the risk of forgetting to open it yourself.

Refer to this article to know more: Schedule a task: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/schedule-a-task

When you want to see all the devices connected to your computer, use one of them, or troubleshoot one that isn't working properly, open Devices and Printers. Using Device Manager, you can view and update the device‌ drivers installed on your computer, check to see if hardware is working properly, and modify hardware settings.

Refer to this article to know more: Install, view, and manage your devices and printers: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/install-view-and-manage-your-devices-and-printers

Reply with more information and we will be glad to offer our assistance.
