Original Title: Windows 8 vs 8.1

I have a new system that came with windows 8. I got everthing working on that systems.

I then upgraded my other computer from window 7 to windows 8.1.  I was not given the choice between window 8 or 8.1.

I had to take 8.1.

I then added office 365 home & business to the 8.1 system but when I try to download the office softwares (excel, word, ect) it states they don't work on this system.

There are other differences I noticed. The computer name is the email address I signed into windows with, and I can't change it.

I created a new user with a difference name to get around this problem.

What other Differences between window 8 and windows 8.1

and when won't office 365 excel, word ect work on windows 8.1.

I'm not sure I want to upgrade my window 8 to windows 8.1.

I have upgraded several desktops and laptops from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, and have not encountered any issues with printers or anything else.  Everything just works, and in some cases 8.1 is more responsive than 8 was.

Try looking up your specific HP printer at the Windows Compatibility Center, to see if there is any specific information on your printer for Windows 8.1.  You also might want to check with HP about your specific printer model, to see if their software has some issue with Windows 8 or 8.1.

DO NOT upgrade to windows 8.1...   HP printers will not install. What a joke Windows 8 is.

    The difference is;-

that ..............if you UPGRADE to Windows 8.1 and have a Windows 8 Disc DVD......then......Microsoft SECRETLY CRIPPLE your Windows 8 DVD Disc facility.

You can no longer REPAIR/REFRESH your install.

You are up the creek without a paddle.

You would have to do a fresh re-install and lose all your time.

Hundreds of hours in many cases.

Its the same if you Pay to Update to Media Centre from Windows 8.1 where Microsoft SECRETLY Cripple your Windows 8.1 Pro DVD also.

I found out the HARD WAY each time.

Microsoft told me they want me to buy a new DVD disc each time I upgrade.

I moved to the FREE LinuxMint16 on my i7 laptop. Now it doesn`t BSoD when I touch the number keypad like it used to when I updated form Windows 7 to Windows 8.
