Windows 8 User Profile corrupted

Windows 8 issue. When I attempt to log in a dialog box tells me the User Profile is destroyed or something like that. How do I start Windows 8 in Safe mode or if not that, repair the old user profile or create a new user profile? Or get to the Recovery Screen?

Thanks,

Chris

    Hi Chris,

What is the exact error message related to User Profile?

Create a new user account and check if the issue persists. If the issue does not persist in new user account then you can fix the corrupted user account.

a: Press Windows logo + C to open the Charms Bar

b: Now Click Settings and then More PC Settings.

c: Then Click Users and then Add a User

d: Log on as a user other than the new user you just created or the user that you want to copy files from.

e:Open the My Documents folder  by Pressing Windows logo + Q and typing computer while highlighting settings Double-click the hard disk drive that Windows is installed on (it's usually your C: drive), double-click Users, double-click the folder with the name of your account, and then double-click My Documents.

f: Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.

If you don't see the Tools menu, press Alt.

g: .Click the View tab, and then click Show hidden files, folders, and drives.

h:Clear the Hide protected operating system files check box, click Yes to confirm, and then click OK.

i: .Locate the C:\Users\Old_Username folder, where C is the drive that Windows is installed on, and Old_Username is the name of the profile you want to copy files from.

j: .Select all of the files and folders in this folder, except the following files:

    Ntuser.dat

    •Ntuser.dat.log

    •Ntuser.ini

h:.Click the Edit menu, and then click Copy.

If you don't see the Edit menu, press Alt.

i: Locate the C:\Users\New_Username folder, where C is the drive that Windows is installed on, and New_Username is the name of the new user profile you created.

j: .Click the Edit menu, and then click Paste.

If you don't see the Edit menu, press Alt.

k: .Log off, and then log back on as the new user.

Please reply if you have any questions.

    Hey Jessen,

I cannot even get into the user account. I'd like to just delete the User profile so I may log in, is this possible?
