Pairing Wireless Desktop 2000

There doesn't appear to be any way to pair the Wireless Keyboard or Mouse 2000.  They come with a USB dongle, and can never be swapped around.  The problem I'm having is I have a keyboard that isn't working, how can I determine that it is with the correct mouse and dongle?  We have so many laying around that it's possible they got swapped at one point on accident.

Are there any numbers on the bottom that should link them together?  Thanks.

    Hello Chris,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community Forum.

As per the description, I understand that there are a number of wireless keyboard and mouse and you are not able to pair the keyboard and mouse with the computer.

I would appreciate if you can provide us the following information to help us understand the issue better.

    1. What happens when you try to pair the mouse and keyboard with the computer? Do you get any error message?
    2. Is your computer able to detect the mouse and keyboard?
    3. Were you able to pair these devices earlier on this computer?

Before you can add a Bluetooth enabled device to your computer, you must do things to make sure your computer and the device are ready to connect:

Make sure that the USB adapter is plugged into the USB port and functional and make the USB devices turned on and discoverable. Refer the Microsoft article below to make sure that your computer is ready to pair with the wireless devices.

Add a Bluetooth enabled device to your computer.

    Thanks for the response.

    1.  The keyboard and mouse are 2.4 Ghz instead of bluetooth.  There are no pairing buttons, or any kind of software that came with the set.  If you look at the quick start guide it is just "plug the dongle in, put in batteries."
    2.  A keyboard does appear in the device manager when I plug the dongle in, even if I don't have batteries in the keyboard.
    3.  This mouse and keyboard as far as I know have never been used on this computer before.  I had used a different set of them fine.  The mouse on this set works fine.  It is just the keyboard.

When I put in new batteries and start typing, the battery indicator lights up green for about 5 seconds and then fades away.  It never comes on after that.  It seems as though there is a "clean keyboard" mode activated on it so that it just won't register any button presses.

    Thanks again.

Thanks again for keeping up with me.

    1.  I was under the impression that devices advertised as connecting via 2.4ghz were different than bluetooth, but I see now that bluetooth includes that range.  I'm still unsure if they're handled differently.  I have no way of testing if they would connect via a regular bluetooth dongle on my PC, but I'm assuming they would.
    2.  There is no version of that for windows 8, but there is something on the mouse's page called Mouse and Keyboard Center which I was able to install.  It shows my mouse and keyboard as being connected just because the dongle is plugged in.  The mouse and keyboard can be without batteries and they still show as being connected to my computer, so that isn't very helpful.  I am still able to use the mouse perfectly fine, but the keyboard is still not typing.

There is no interface for pairing this keyboard to this dongle.  I'm still hoping there is a way to match they physical keyboard and mice back to their partners via labeling or consecutive MAC addresses.

    Thanks.

    Hello Chris,

Thank you for your reply and apology for the delayed response. Appreciate the time taken by you in keeping us updated on the status of the issue.

    1. What do you mean when you say “The keyboard and mouse are 2.4 GHz instead of Bluetooth”?
    2. Do you have IntelliPoint V8.0 and Microsoft IntelliType Pro V8.0 installed on your computer?

You need to have IntelliPoint V8.0 and IntelliType Pro V8.0 or higher version installed on your computer in order to get your Wireless Desktop 2000 connected on your computer.

If you do not have IntelliPoint V8.0 and IntelliType Pro V8.0 or higher installed, download and install the appropriate driver from the official Microsoft download link below and check if you are able to connect the keyboard and mouse.
