Original title: Red Dots

I have a Delll laptop , Model # M5030 AMD Athlon II Dual Core Processor. 220GHz, with a Generic PnP Monitor.

I'm getting these red dots/lines in areas that should be dark. My backgrounds are colorful so it will load completely black when they change, but then the moving red pixels will suddenly appear. It says there's no need to update but I can't get rid of the dots. I'm on my laptop a lot for school. What should I do?

Monitors & display adapters do develop problems, it is not unheard of.  I had vertical lines on mine a couple of years ago.

Search the Dell support site for your model.  There used to be a testing utility to download that would help to isolate the fault [monitor, display adapter, display driver etc].  I just checked my old link but the page no longer exists.

    Hi,

Were there any changes made on the computer prior to the issue?

    Method 1:

Try to reduce Hardware video acceleration.

To adjust graphics hardware acceleration, follow these steps:

    a.     Click StartCollapse this imageExpand this image, type personalization in the Start Search box, and then click Personalization in the Programs list.

    b.    Click Display Settings.

    c.     Click Advanced Settings.

    d.    Click the Troubleshoot tab, and then click Change settings.

Collapse this imageExpand this imageIf you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

    e.    Move the Hardware Acceleration slider two notches to the left of Full (the Disable cursor and bitmap accelerations setting).

    f.      Click OK, and then click Restart Now.

    g.    After the computer has restarted, test the issue.

    Method 2:

I would suggest you to update the display drivers and check if it helps.
