On the Xbox One, in order to play audio/music CDs, one must download and install the audio CD app for Xbox One much the same as if you want to play a movie one must also download the blue ray player app for Xbox one. Both are available free in the Xbox one store.
No CD ripping on the Xbox One just made a lot clear.
I've been an Xbox One owner since day one and a supporter of each of Microsoft's gaming systems almost as soon as they were released. I thought the music player looked pretty good but like so many don't have the money to afford yet another charge. So I was just holding off to use the free month. Today though I bought a few new cd's and put them in my system just assuming I'd be able to rip them onto my hard drive and listen to them while playing some games online tonight. Then I did a bit of research after it didn't work like on the 360 to find out every one of the over 1000 cd's I own are almost useless with this system. Other than just pure greed I can't see why they won't fix it so all of us who have a giant collection of disks we have been buying for a decade can't listen to our music. I for one will never download a song I have already paid for on a disk and along with most of my friends are still fans of having the hard copy. I think this makes one of the top problems with this system with ease and can't understand why more haven't complained about it. Many more.

2014-06-02T00:38:49+00:00 This is the Xbox Music and Xbox Video forum, Xbox Music handles the Xbox Music app, not the system music player. For support with the system music player you would need to speak with Xbox console/Live support.
Regarding why it's not available my expectation is simple, the One was released before the software was complete. That's very apparent given the state of the dashboard at release and the number of features that Should have been available at release that have been added since. It is likely that ripping CDs is on the list, however it's likely a low priority given the abundance of alternatives and likely small number of people who care about it.
I would suggest going to xboxlive.uservoice.com and voting for the option there if you want to see it added.
