What is the default font in Windows 7?

I'm having a bugger of a time trying to figure this out, but I'm trying to find a decent Windows font that looks good all over like XP did, but I'm not sure what to choose and I'm not sure what XP used or even what Windows 7 uses.

I know how to change things but knowing the default for each would help me decide. I try with ClearType on and off but I keep running into the same hard-to-read text that is either squashed or looks smeared. It just isn't the same all-over good experience as it was with XP, though I prefer not to have the pixelated look on text.

    Hi,

Segoe UI is the default font in Windows 7. Segoe UI is a Humanist typeface family that is best known for its use by Microsoft. Microsoft uses Segoe UI in their online and printed marketing materials, including recent logos for a number of products. Additionally, the Segoe UI family of fonts is utilized by numerous Microsoft applications. It is the default font in Windows Vista and Windows 7. The font is also used for Outlook.com, Microsoft's email service which replaced the earlier Hotmail.

    Thank you.

Those aren't default fonts, those are pre-installed fonts. There can only be one default font because it only uses one font at a time and the default font is the one you start up with. Does nobody know what "default" means? "Default font settings" is not the same as "default font".

I want to know what the font is that Windows 7 is using when I first originally for the first time ever logged into Windows 7 after installing it, period. Is it Calibri? Is it Seque UI? Which one is it?!

    Hi,

It truly is at “C:\Windows\Fonts”.  You can also type "Fonts" into the Run box. Press “Windows key + R” to get the run window.

    Thank you.

That just takes me to the font list, which doesn't tell me what the default is. Apparently this is Microsoft's most closely-guarded secret.
