In case of renaming a folder to con, aux etc many suggested to do the action alt + 255 and then the name 'con'

It works , I agree.

Now my question is how do alt +255 works there ?

What kind of function it actually is ?

Just thought sharing this.. All the keyboard key are having an equivalent value of ASCII. (For example how a computer will identify  letter O and number 0? Just because they are converted to respected unique ascii values)

you can't rename anything using a null/blank value using direct key board input but using ascii value you can. Computer will listen to direct ASCII commands rather using just keyboard.. Alt+255 is the direct command/input to the computer to use ASCII equivalent that is the equivalent value of blank Non-breaking space or no-break space).

With Alt key you can use most of the symbols that you cant use using normal way..

and also regarding con file I got an email from my old archive and thought sharing it with you..

    Hope this helps.. Good luck..
