I manage to use the prt sc sysrq button and the image goes into my folder in Pictures. When I open an image this locks the whole computer and no matter what I click on I can't exit. Why?

    Hello Derek,

You may refer to the link mentioned below and see if that helps.

Take a screen capture (print your screen)

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/take-screen-capture-print-screen#take-screen-capture-print-screen=windows-7

Hope this helps. Otherwise, feel free to write us back for further assistance.

    Thank you

I have tried the solutions in the search for updates and nothing improves.

This freeze only happens in the Screen shot gallery.

Just back from some days away thanks.

The computer freezes when I try to open some image in the ScreenShot folder in Pictures. There is nothing I can do to get rid of the folder or the image, the freeze takes over.

There has been no alteration to the hardware etc beforehand.

I recently had Malware removed by a local computer specialist who actually sold me the laptopm.

    Hi Derek,

    1. Does the computer freeze only when you open the image?
    2. Were there any changes (hardware or software) made to the computer prior to the issue?

I understand the frustration when things don't work as expected.

The issue can happen due to a malware attack.

    Method 1:

If you notice your PC slowing down or freezing you can update the drivers to improve performance.

a: Swipe from the right or press the Windows + C key. Tap or click the Search charm, and then type Windows Update.

b: Tap or click Settings, and then select Install optional updates.

c: When the Windows Update control panel opens, click Check for Updates on the top left corner to receive a list of available updates for your PC.

    Method 2:

Run the Microsoft Safety Scanner in full scan mode, and remove all the threats that get detected by it and see if the issue persists.

    **Microsoft Safety Scanner**

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner expires 10 days after being downloaded. To rerun a scan with the latest anti-malware definitions, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

The Microsoft Safety Scanner is not a replacement for using an antivirus software program that provides ongoing protection.

Please take a backup of all the data to an external hard disk before performing a scan as it could result in data loss.

If you need any further assistance with Windows Operating System, please post your query on Microsoft Community Forums and we’ll be glad to assist you with it.

Thanks I will try and answer when I have time, but for instance the computer wasoff all Saturday from about 2 pm and back on this morning and the frozen screen shot folder was still on with a series of images scrolling.

Also ref your update comments, it has been warning me everyday that the computer will restart to allow Windows updates. Do they happen whil I am using it?
