I have got an intermittent problem with ads from adnxs.com popping up every so often. I had the problem a while back and got rid of it using a solution from a internet search. I've done the same this time - at least 2 solutions - but the thing keeps reappearing. How do I get rid permanently? I have Malwarbytes and Microsoft Security Essentials but running them doesn't detect anyhting untoward. Help!

AdwCleaner may be all you need.

Remove Adware & PUPs with these tools. Check for updates first and then scan with each one at a time until your machine is clean.

    AdwCleaner (Free)

    Malwarebytes (Get the free version)
    https://www.malwarebytes.org/free/

    HitmanPro (30 day free trial)

    Junkware Removal Tool (Free)

If necessary, reset your browsers. For IE:

    http://malwaretips.com/blogs/ib-adnxs-popup-virus/   See step 1 and step 2.

Bruce Hagen recommended resetting your browsers....I just did that while working on a computer that had webcake and searchprotect installed on it.  I  reset Google Chrome and Internet Explorer and that eliminated the remnants of the adware.  And if your issue is with Chrome you can always (if necessary) completely uninstall it (don't save any settings) and then you can reinstall Chrome.

    Regards...

Thanks and will try but I am becoming solution-logged.  Terry Tortoise.

    Thanks for prompt reply.

I  downloaded ADwCleaner and ran it. It found 2 'bugs' but when I said 'Remove' (or whatever it says), it crashed out.  It may have worked but I won't know for a while as adnxs is intermittent and appears when it feels like it.  I'll try download/run again.

    Terry Tortoise.

I've run AdwCleaner, Malwarebytes and Junk Removal Tool and it seems to go quiet for about 1/2 to 1 day then adnxs starts up again. After my first runs of these tools, none of these tools report any issues but adnxs SEEMS to have gone away. However, it is only resting, ready to return a day or so later. I removed it 2 years ago (can't remember how) and it stayed 'dead' until this latest episode where it is proving more persistent. Any others suffering this persistence? Any solutions?
