Where to download a bootable .iso image of Windows Vista (Home Basic):

http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/w/microsoft_os/3317.aspx

... request for a new bootable DVD of Win Vista Home Basic:

PS

For greater clarity - from the top link to iso files:

Windows Vista Official Setup Files (Digital River)

Note these .iso files may be used with a Dell/non-Dell OEM product Key but phone activation is required (see note at end). This key is typically found on the COA attached to the base of the system.

Retail/upgrade product keys can be used with these .iso files and activated over the internet or phone. See note at the end for phone activation.

Hi,

There is no Windows Vista download available from Microsoft.

If Vista came preinstalled, contact your Laptop / Computer Manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of Recovery Disks.

They should do that for a small cost.

Fot Retail Licenses, etc:

"How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs, and replace product manuals"

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326246

Some manufacturers no longer have Vista Recovery Disks available.

If that happens, you may have to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, that contains the files for the various Vista Editions (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) to be installed. The Product Key on your Computer / Laptop case determines which Edition is installed.

Other Manufacturers' Recovery DVDs are not to be used for the above purpose.

And you need to know the "bit" version for Vista, as 32bit and 64bit Editions come on different DVDs

Cheers

    First, Vista is totally ****!

Second, Windows customer support is another bull ****!

We've already paid for the licence and we non-technical people don't even have any idea of such stupid restore, backup, and repair. That's not for ordinary people but for those system administrators.

People sometimes downloaded programs from the Internet, but might be infected with malware or spyware that in the worst case damaged Windows System, including Registry system. If system Respire Tool or Recovery tool could fix the problems, that's great. Otherwise, you guys from Microsoft should provide an efficient way to find a workaround to still successfully reboot the system for whatever reason.

In fact, for me, even as a software developer, can't fix this issue on my own when pre-installed Windows Vista failed to startup and also restore to a point from any previous time. In order not to affect existing data and files in the computer, I spent too much time on this and got frustrated in the end. It was really a terrible user experience I've ever had when using Windows. I will throw away Windows OS and switch to other better OS like Mac or Ubuntu.
