The query on the Windows Search Service (wsearch) shows that the Windows Search Service is "Stopped" with a WIN32_EXIT_CODE of 1077 (0x435)

The 1077 exit code indicates "No attempts to start the service have been made since the last boot."

As the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service requires the Windows Search Service to be started try the following:

Windows key + R > type services.msc in the "Open" box > OK

In the right window scroll down and double-click on the "Windows Search" Service

Under the "General" tab set the "Startup type" to "Automatic (Delayed Start)" > OK

    Restart the computer.

All of the above are on and ICS is off. Still can't turn on media sharing. Before I was using media sharing on WIndows 7 so this is first time I wanted to turn it on on Windows 8.1

    Hi,

    Was it working fine earlier?

Here look at Sharing and Discovery, make sure the following options are set:

    Network Discovery - On

    File Sharing - On

    Media Sharing - On

If they are Off, simply expand and either change the option or click change to adjust.

    Also refer to this link:

Media Streaming may not work with Internet Connection Sharing enabled in Windows.

    • Application Layer Gateway Service

    • Network Connections

    • Network Location Awareness (NLA)

    • Plug and Play

    • Remote Access Auto Connection Manager

    • Remote Access Connection Manager

    • Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

services on but still when trying at the end to start Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service I'm still getting 1068 error.

Running SFC didn't show any problems.

    Hi,

Which antivirus software is installed on the computer?

First check whether the **SSDP Discovery and UPnP Device Host services are started.**If not started, then try to start these services first and try to start Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service.

Also check if the following services are started.

    • Application Layer Gateway Service

    • Network Connections

    • Network Location Awareness (NLA)

    • Plug and Play

    • Remote Access Auto Connection Manager

    • Remote Access Connection Manager

    • Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

Also, check the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service is started, right-click it and click Start. If it has already been started restart the service by doing a right click on the service and click Restart.

    Method 1:

You may try performing a SFC scan on the computer which would scan for corrupt or missing system files on the computer and replace them.

**Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files**

    Method 2:

Disable the security software then check if this fixes the issue.

Warning: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Get back with the issue status.
