I record off my soundcard thru Nero or Cool Edit with no problem, but since I rebooted due to virus issues the above message is displayed and recording is no longer poss. It is a mother board sound card.

Hi,

Do these to clear corruption and repair/replace damaged/missing system files.

Run DiskCleanup - Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Disk Cleanup

Start - type in Search box -  COMMAND   find at top of list -  RIGHT CLICK  -  RUN AS ADMIN

sfc /scannow

How to analyze the log file entries that the Microsoft Windows Resource Checker (SFC.exe) program

generates in Windows Vista cbs.log

Then run checkdisk - schedule it to run at next start and then Apply OK your way out then restart.

How to Run Check Disk at Startup in Vista

===========================

After the above :

Control Panel - Device Manager - SOUNDS - look for HD Audio - Mine says RealTek High Definition Audio

(that is an example and yours may have an entirely different name/maker).

Write down description make and model - double click on it - drivers tab - write down version. Now

Click UPdate Drivers which may not do anything as MS is far behind certifying drivers. Then RIGHT

CLICK on it and UNINSTALL - REBOOT - this will rebuild the driver stack.

1st go to system maker's site and look for latest driver Download - SAVE - go to right click on and RUN AS ADMIN

(This is your fallback.) REBOOT after each driver installation.

NOTE : Sound drivers often rollback so check the version after installation and the reboot tosee if the version you installed is there, if not repeat the install - reboot until it is. It can takeseveral tries depending on how many rollbacks it does.

Then do same for Device Maker's site.

Manually look at manufacturer's sites for drivers - and Device Maker's sites.

Also Right Click Speaker near clock - Playback Devices - right click in the box area - checkShow disable and disconnected devices. Highlight speaker and on the lower Right clickProperties check settings for Device Usage enabled and so on. Also do same for Configureon Lower Left of that box.

In Control Panel you can also look for an Audio Manager along with the Sound Settings.

This happen to me as well when I had to recently had to do a system restore. I also use Cool Edit Pro 2.0, but in order to record through your sound card, you have to enable Stereo mix, once your have the proper system drivers installed. ( If you already have the proper drivers installed, you go to the Control Panel, then click on Hardware and Sound. Now your going to click on Sound, then choose the Recording Tab. Now what you need to do is right click on the screen " On the Recording Tab" and choose show disabled devices. A new icon should appear, mine is called Stereo Mix " Realtek High Definition Audio ". Now all you have to do is right click on your new Icon, and choose enable device. Now you will be able to record through your computers sound card. If you did a system restore like me, what you have to first is update your sound drives to the current required drives that are up to date for your system. I use Realtek High Definition Audio, and the easiest way to install your proper system drivers is to download, and install a program called DriverTuner. It is not a free program, it does cost money, but it very inexpensive. It's only 4$ for 1 month of service. What it does is check your systems drivers, and if there out of date it automatically installs the proper drivers for your system. Of course you could probably find a cracked version of DriverTuner of kickasstorrents "kat.ph" Anyways once you have your proper drivers install, you still have one more thing you have to which is enable the sound card to record in System Sounds. First off you go to the Control Panel, then click on Hardware and Sound. Now your going to click on Sound, then choose the Recording Tab. Now what you need to do is right click on the screen " On the Recording Tab" and choose show disable devices. A new icon should appear, mine is called Stereo Mix "Realtek High Definition Audio". Now all you have to do is right click on your new Icon, and choose enable device. Now you will be able to record through your computers sound card. =)
