Even simpler solution....Hold down Fn key on bottom row and hit Esc. This unlocks function keys. Now they work without holding down Fn key.

Thanks. My volume buttons suddenly stopped working. Held down Fn key and they worked. After that they worked with Fn key.

I have this same problem. I have the Dell Inspiron 15. I didn't contact Dell for support just yet.

Hmmm...unlike the OP it seems, im not computer illiterate. My Fn+Mute works fine on my new Dell 15. Its the volume up/down that do not seem to work. I installed all the latest updates because I noticed this but what happened was; I watch Netflix a lot and after the update to the Realtek Audio drivers and Quickset, I noticed that anytime a load screen completed for Netflix the volume always changed backed to 67, even if I just skipped forward or back a little in the same movie or episode.

I uninstalled the updates and resolved the automatic volume changes, but still do not have working volume shortcut keys. Any help would be appreciated...however sarcasm is not. Thank You.
