    Hi Duncan,

I will try to help you with this issue. Can you quickly answer these questions?

    1. What is the status of the Canon Scanner under**Device Manager**?
    2. Have you installed the proper drivers for the scanner?

We can try these steps and check the issue status.

    Method 1:

If your computer is having problems with a recently installed device or other hardware, try using the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter to fix the problem. It checks for common issues and makes sure that any new device or hardware attached to your computer was installed correctly.

You can refer to the link:

Follow the section “Run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/what-device-isnt-installed-properly

    Method 2:

I would suggest you to uninstall the existing drivers and software for the Canon scanner both from **control panel**and device manager. Reinstall the proper drivers, software and the firmware updates from here:

    http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/office/products/hardware/scanners/high_speed_document_scanners/imageformula_p_215_scan_tini_personal_document_scanner#DriversAndSoftware

Hope this helps. Let us know the issue status.
