Open FTP site in File Explorer

We recently installed Windows  7 and Internet Explorer 11. After accessing an FTP Root site and following the instructions to Press Alt and then Click Open FTP site in File Explorer, nothing happens.  We have ticked the Enable FTP folder view [outside IE] and Use Passive FTP.  Before upgrading, we used Windows XP and were able to open FTP sites in Windows Explorer without any problem. We look forward to receiving your recommendations.

Instead of using Internet Explorer's menu to do this, do it directly from the File Explorer.

    1. Open Windows Explorer "Computer" form the Start menu.
    2. Right-click a blank spot and choose New > New Network Location
    3. Add the FTP location.

The problem is when I go to a ftp://  I am no longer able to view the page using "Open Site in File Explorer".    There are several FTP sites I go to as many of the Architects keep the construction plans on their sites.  When I direct folks to our own FTP site, they have told me they have problems similar to what I experience and the fact is ftp sites worked before using view the page in "Windows Explorer: in IE-8 and up until recently "File Explorer", I don't understand why nothing happens when we choose the option now.  When I have to direct someone else, who isn't computer knowledgable, it is difficult to explain that they can great a link by going to Start, Computer, etc.   It is easier to just follow them on the internet, but when theirs and mine don't "Open Site in File Explorer", yet we both use to open the site that way, it makes me think an update messed things up.   The version of Explorer is 11.0.20 (last update was this month).  I had the problem before this last update, so if it was an update issue, this last one should have corrected it.

I'm having the same problem. Want to use File Explorer (or Windows Explorer), not IE, to handle FTP. But if I try to open an FTP site in File Explorer, it switches to IE. It connects to the site, but IE is not friendly for uploading and downloading files. I'm on a new computer with Windows 8.1 (which sucks, but the way.) I tried to create a new network location in File Explorer, but it still defaults to IE (and fails to connect because of some strange characters it adds to the address). In "Set Default Programs" I tried to uncheck "FTP" in the protocols for IE, but it won't let me uncheck it. I feel trapped.

I am having the same problem as David.   Fact is it worked great several months ago, and now does not - I am assuming a Windows Update may have caused the problem, but I don't want to go through all the updates since January to figure out which one is causing the problem.    The FTP site I want to go to is my own site, but when explaining how to go to it to another company I walk them through along with me doing the same on my computer, so we are seeing the same thing - I have Windows 7 and have been using it for over a year, it is just in the last few months that I can't get the view an FTP site in  File Explorer
