Original Title: Updating to Windows 8.1 via samsung notebook.

I have for now over a month I guess trying to updat my Samsung Notebook NP 355E7 A01US with pre-installed Windows 8. I am trying to update it to Windows 8.1, each time I do it something different happens.

The first time it would just not install the required updates to even get it to update to the 8.1,

nor would my Windows store would work.

The second time I attempted to update it, it did some of the required updates for the 8.1, but it would not log on to my outlook account.

And since I do phone developement, it was a total pain in the ****. I could not get into things because my passwords was not stored.

The third time I attemped to install them, it did the same but now it would not trust my pc, and in turn I some how wound up deleting all of my web

browsers. I mean I could not get to the internet by anymeans. HORRIBLE

The fourth time I attemped to update it, it still did all of the previous things except me deleting the web browsers. But this time I tried to so a system restore and something happened that it would require the bootable image or start up disc. Well I managed to recreate one from my mothers computer and got Windows 8 back working, but this time it has installed all of the required updates to update to 8.1 and I am ready to go.

BUT, yes that ugly word BUT. (my friend always tells me I will hear everything up to the but, after that I need not listen.LOL) this time it will not download from the store it just kind of hangs around for hours and days on end saying it is installing, no luck.

So after all of these botched attemps, I go to this download/search/help forum thing and just download it straight from the site.

However, it all downloads..... and yes again another BUT, BUT the clearcompressionflag.exe will not run on my laptop

oh and my laptop is a Samsung Notebook NP 355E7 A01US, it says:

"this app can't run on your PC to find a version for your pc, check with the software publisher"

well DUHHHH microsoft is the software publisher and that is what I thought I have been doing.

So yeah I am stumped,,,,, oh yea and to top it all of somehow my bootmanger and PO and P3 all got out of order and I am having to do fucntion & F10 to get windows to boot up.......

so if anyone and I mean anyone ( you could be charlie manson, I need my laptop seriously) would be ever so kind to help a sista out or throw her a bone. I would so greatly appreciate and for ever be in awe of you! I thank you all in advance!  :)

Hi Vicky,

This issue is usually caused due to any third party hardware/software or due to any compatibility issues. I would like to know some information about this issue so that we could assist you further.

  1. Have you connected any external devices other than mouse and keyboard?
  2. have you installed any third party security software on your computer?

As a first step, I would suggest you to run the Upgrade Assistant to check if there are any incompatible hardware or drivers on your computer.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/upgrade-assistant-download-online-faq

If there are no incompatible hardware or software on your computer, then I would suggest you to try the following methods and check if it works for you.

Method 1:

If you have connected any external devices other than mouse and keyboard, then try disconnecting it and then try to upgrade to Windows 8.1.

Method 2:

Reset Windows Store Cache and then try upgrade to Windows 8.1 and check if it helps. This will help you reset the missing or corrupted Windows Store Cache.

Follow the steps to reset Windows Store Cache:

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.

(If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, and then click Search.) 2. Enter run in the search box, and then tap or click Run. 3. Enter wsreset.exe in the Run command and then tap or click OK.

Method 3:

Place the computer in Clean Boot state and check if the issue persists. This is to check if the issue is caused due to any third party program/app.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7 or in Windows 8/8.1:

Note: After clean boot troubleshooting step, refer to the section "How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot" in the provided link to return your computer to Normal startup mode.

For further reference, you may refer to the following Microsoft Help article.

Please reply with the status of the issue so that we can help you better.

I spent countless hours trying to update to Windows 8.1.  What a frustrating experience.  I thank all those who offered suggestions.   When I tried to follow the three methods outlined, the first two did not work at all and on the third my computer just "hung" in the msconfig dialogue boxes repeatedly.  In the end, I was able to use method 3 by booting my computer in Safe Mode using Networking.  With Windows 8, you do that by holding/toggling the SHIFT key while pressing RESTART in the SETTINGS, POWER options.  Then I followed method three but before pressing the OK in the final box, I had to press APPLY first and then OK.  After trying to update many times in the past few months, I finally got it.  I find 8.1 is definitely an improvement over 8.  Worth trying to update.  Thanks everyone for your input.
