Persistent flickering while viewing a single OneDrive folder location Windows Explorer

Each time I browse to and open the same specific folder on OneDrive, the file list in a standard Windows Explorer persistently flickers. The left side of the window is fine. I have been dealing with this for months, and have tried all that I can think of, apart from a wipedown and start over.

Any ideas?

Hi,

A little confused when you says it occurs when you view the folder remotely, how exactly is this done?

It appears to be a sync issue relating to that folder.  As the issue often requires gathering personal information, please click on this link to contact a Microsoft representative for a one-on-one help.

thank you for the advice of contacting a Microsoft rep. I had a chat session with a rep and they double checked all my settings and folder content there was nothing apparently detectable when inspecting them. After trying a number of things, the rep suggested that I copy the folder's contents to a location on my hard drive.

I did this by using my Windows 8.1 start screen OneDrive app. Once I did this, I deleted the folder from OneDrive. Now I copied the folder from my hard drive back to OneDrive using a different folder name. Once this was completed, I had no issue accessing the folder and its content using my Windows Explorer desktop tool.

There was no more window flickering after that. It appears there my have been something that was corrupted, but after a fresh copy of the folder was moved back to OneDrive, all was remedied.

    Thanks all!

    David

    Hi,

I had a similar problem with File Explorer. When I opened the Documents folder the browser and my desktop started flickering like constant refresh was applied. Just the documents folder had this behavior. After reading Dray1026's I removed the whole content from Documents to new-created folder. The new folder started to flicker but the empty Documents folder start to behave normally. Removing one by one folders and files back into Documents led me to the file causing the problem. It was .html file with exported bookmarks in it. I don't think that particular file was somehow corrupted but the fact is that after zipping it the flickering stops. Not sure  if that was a symptom but some days before I fixed the problem Windows warned me several times that an app is causing a problem and my current browser is replaced with Edge.

So the reasons are not clear but finding the bad file did the work for me.

    Thanks!!!

Thanks for your reply. This folder contains a variety of Microsoft Office files, folders, and image files. I only see this flicker when browsing using the standard Windows Explorer tool. If I browse using my iPad  or iPhone OneDrive client, I have no issue. If I browse using my Windows 8.1 OneDrive app, I also have no issue.

i have copied the entire file to my desktop, and I have no issues when opening in that window. It literally only occurs when viewing the OneDrive folder remotely from the cloud.

i have run the troubleshooter, and it has not resolved my issue.

    Thanks,

    David

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in the Microsoft Community forum.  Let me assist you with the issue you are facing.

    1. What types of file does the folder contain?
    2. Does the folder flicker only when you try to browse and open the specific folder?
    3. Can you please check for any corrupted files in the affected folders?
    4. Are you able to access the files from the folder when viewing it through OneDrive web(https://onedrive.live.com/)?

Also, you may run the OneDrive troubleshooter:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/onedrive-troubleshooter

Kindly, reply to the query and we will be glad to assist you further.
