My windows 7 desktop was working fine two day ago then I was away and it "went to sleep".  Today it no longer has wireless connection.  the icon shows a lan line which it says correctly is disconnected.  I tried everything I could find on line to no avail.  I can't even find a wireless connection icon or a wireless adapter to work with.  All I have gotten is "wireless is not currently enabled".  Does anyone know how to enable the dang thing?  I wasted hours on this today and am quite frustrated.

    Hi,

Thank you for posting the query in Microsoft community!

From the problem description I understand that, the wireless not currently enabled. Provide the following information

    1. Did you make any changes on the computer prior to the issue?
    2. Do you receive any error message?
    3. Which ant-virus software is installed on the computer?

    Method 1:

You may try the suggestions from the link and check.

Wired and wireless network connection problems in Windows

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/help/wired-and-wireless-network-connection-problems-in-windows

    Method 2:

You may go to wireless network card properties and make sure it is enabled.

    a. Click on Start

    b. Then click on Control Panel

    c. Select Network and Internet (or Network and Sharing)

    d. Select Network Options

    e. Then click Manage Network Connections

    f. Then select your Wireless NIC and right click on it, then make sure it is Enabled

    Method 3:

You may try the suggestions provided and check.

    Step 1

Uninstall the existing network driver from the computer and restart the computer to load the generic drivers.

    A. Click start, type “devmgmt.msc” in the start search box and press enter.

    B. Right click the network driver and select “uninstall”

    C. Restart the computer to load the generic drivers.

    Step 2

Check if the Startup Type of “WLAN AutoConfig” service is “Automatic”

    1. Click start, type “services.msc” in the start search box and press enter.
    2. In services windows scroll down to locate “WLAN AutoConfig”
    3. If the startup type is not automatic, right click the service and change the startup type to “Automatic”
    4. Click Apply, Ok.

    Method 4:

You may temporarily disable the antivirus and firewall on the computer and check.

Turn Windows Firewall on or off ****http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Turn-Windows-Firewall-on-or-off

NOTE: Turning off Windows Firewall might make your computer (and your network, if you have one) more vulnerable to damage from worms or hackers.

    .

    Disable antivirus software ****http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Disable-antivirus-software

NOTE: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks

hi, just type "msconfig" in your search bar, the system configuration window will pop up, in this window click on "services" tab,in service tab window, click on "Enable all" button, that is located at right side down corner, than click on "apply" button, lastly restart your machine and all the services will be back.

Hello I am sure that problem must be resolved by now, But I also had the same issue. What I did was that I rolled back the driver. It worked.

    1. insert the computer driver CD your computer came with. Don't run it
    2. Go to start and type "device manager"
    3. Scroll down to "other devices". You will see yellow warning signs, meaning the driver for the devices are not installed.
    4. Right click "update driver software" then choose "browse my computer for driver software"
    5. Click drop-down box and click on drive letter for your driver CD. My Computer assigned it to F. When I clicked on it Dropbox should now read like this... F:/
    6. Make sure check box is checked on "include subfolders"

Continue doing this for all the other drivers that need updating
