Tiff files are locked and can't be deleted or edited

I have about 5000MB of old Tiff files in a few folders that I haven't used in years so I decided to delete them. When I try delete, rename or in any other way edit the files the process just hangs and never proceeds. I have ensured they are not marked read only as well.

I thought it might be a program locking the files so i restarted my computer in safe mode and got the same result.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for the reply - glad to clarify.

The file deletion window pops up as though there are a lot of files to delete, but then it never progresses. So no error message, just the progress window that never moves.

They're stored in an archive folder at the root level of an internal backup drive (so not the same drive as programs, but not an external drive).

I downloaded unlocker and tried that (thanks for the suggestion) but when I try delete the files that way the program starts and lets me select 'delete', but when I do that the progress window for the program appears but then after a few seconds says 'Not responding'.

    • You get no message when you try to delete them?
    • Where are they stored?
    • Have you tried something like:

    http://www.emptyloop.com/unlocker/

    ?
