Windows Update Agent reinstall

I need to reinstall Windows Update Agent --- it does not function!

A]  I am receiving NO update notices.

(Yes, WU service is on and set to automatic start.)

B]  When I try to open WinUpdate in control panel (Win7 Ultimate sp1), I get a nearly blank window with one upper frame containing: "#elementModuleHeaderText# (and below that)

#actionCustomInstallImportantText# , followed by an empty button. That's it!

(Yes, everything else in control panel works perfectly.)

I downloaded "WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe" , and ran it from an administrative terminal with the "/wuforce" switch.

Did no good. Simply got a message that "Install is not needed since windows update agent is already installed." (Yes, installed and BROKEN!)

Would not force a reinstall.

I'm stumped! What do you suggest?

I agree that will help but it might be malware that is causing this problem and simply repairing windows will not remove the malware it will just simply go back to the way it was eventually the tool i suggested has a malware removal step in it here is the link

I would recommend repairing windows with a recovery CD. Not reinstalling, of course, just repairing. The repair option should be somewhere in the recovery menu, after you boot from CD. That might help replace the missing or corrupted files and get WU to work correctly. Let me know how it goes!

Had this problem 3 weeks ago try this go to www.tweaking.com and download their Windows Repair All-in-One and run each step to the letter, the last step is a list of repairs select the ones that apply to your PC or problem ONLY and run it, then try to check for updates, after running the tool your windows updater should open normally and state that no updates have ever been run, don't worry about this, the fix clears out the SoftwareDistribution folder which is a normal fix for windows updates but something more sounds wrong with your PC so that is why i say to run all the steps let me know if that helps
