Microsoft 200 USB Keyboard at random times will stop working

Original Title: Windows 8.1 KB random disconnect/connect

Recently changed to the Microsoft 200 USB Keyboard  At random times it will stop working, the NUM LOCK light will light or go out

Just happened now and does it in IE and desktop apps   I do hear the connect/disconnect twiddle (USB)  Of course no errors in logs

I thought it was a bad keyboard, but saw this in the Computer Management Console/Events Warning

Event 219,  Kernel-PnP

Driver Name  HID\VID_045E&PID_07B9\7&5d2b1a6&0&0000

Failure Name  \Driver\kbhid

At boot, the keyboard is always available (entering password)

In the Keyboard Properties it has "No Microsoft Keyboard Detected"

This has also happened on another Win 8.1 machine with a different model of a Microsoft Keyboard

Hate to buy more keyboards and I guess I could try swapping them around (on the other machine, I once just plug in another KB to finish typing and it worked)

Is USB 3.0 too fast for this Keyboard?  The MS 200 KB has no driver needed

    Hello Again,

I did just check the Advanced Power Setting/USB/USB Selective Suspend -Enabled

    I have now Disabled it

It must be something with the Microsoft 200 KB  I swapped it out to a Microsoft 2000 and

    have not had the issue

I will swap the Microsoft 200 back and see if it still has the problem

The Selective Suspend function would be something I was experiencing

This machines BIOS has no settings for USB power control

    Will post back

    Thanks

    Hi,

I would suggest you to check the settings in control panel  Power options for USB. Follow the steps:

    1. Press Windows Key + X.
    2. Select Power Options.
    3. Next to your currently selected plan, click Change Plan Settings.
    4. Click Change advanced power settings.
    5. Click the box to expand USB Settings, then expand USB selective suspend settings.
    6. Click the drop down menu and select disabled.
    7. If you're using a laptop, click Battery, then click the drop down menu and select disabled.
    8. Click Apply, then click OK.

I would suggest you to keep Windows updates up to date.

Also make sure you re-install drivers for Microsoft 200 USB Keyboard

    http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/downloads/mouse-keyboard-center

As you have mentioned that you haven't tried to check the BIOS power saving option. I would suggest you to follow all the steps mentioned in my post and reply us with the results to assist you further.

Thank You, Yaqub for your response

The Computer in question is a HP ENVY Phoenix 810-150se CTO

I went to HP Support and downloaded a Texas Instruments Chipset Driver for USB

    I have the

Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center Installed and it gives me this in it's console:

Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center cannot detect a Microsoft device connected to your computer.

Is this keyboard (Microsoft 200) supported?

The motherboard is a PEGATRON which is an OEM branch of ASUS so I trust the manufacture

I have yet to check BIOS settings and of course HP says use their KB that came with it

    No, I like Microsoft Keyboards!

It maybe something that was installed so I know the drill:

Disable Services and Startup Programs and find the culprit

I have been with Microsoft since Windows /286 on up and have written in Visual Basic 4,5,6

(Just a hobby) And not afraid of the Registry or using Command Line (you can get more done)

It's a nuisance, but a challenge to find it.

Thank-You and I'll post back with my progress

    Hi,

I understand the frustration you are going through. We will try our level best to fix the issue.

This issue is occurred due to corrupt or missing drivers associated with the keyboard.

What is the make and model of your computer?

I would suggest you to refer the steps mentioned in the following link:

Troubleshoot response failures in wireless keyboard or mouse

I would suggest you to install the latest version of Chipset and USB drivers from your computer manufacturer website.

Also disable any power saving options in BIOS for USB ports (Basic Input/output System). To do so you may either refer to your computer user manual or contact your computer manufacturer.

Note: Modifying BIOS/ complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly.
