Out of interest, what did you do in the end as I have just bought your model number from CEX!
Zune 80gb (model 1126) Fails to Charge
Hi there, I have a Zune 80, model 1126 and it has completely died. I hadn't used it for a month or so and now the battery fails to charge. I can't reboot it (I assume because there is no power). It's probably out of warranty and I'm in the UK. Any ideas? Thanks, TB

if you let it sit for a long while and the charge is low to begin with, it won't show signs of charging for maybe an hour or so. (It cannot turn on without a minimum amount of charge, so it can't talk to the PC charging it, which means the PC will only trickle charge it to avoid damage.) So make sure this isn't the problem, or use an external zune charger (which will supply full charging power regardless.)
If that fails, it's likely that the battery is dead, or your cable is broken (borrow a spare if possible?) In the US, I'd recommend rapidrepair.com and/or pdasmart.com for repairs... but I don't know if they serve the UK.

2012-01-11T15:08:20+00:00 Greetings again.
Tried charging from the PC (front and back USB slots); Altec Lanseng Docking speakers; mains. All with no success of getting some charging action. However, when I plug into mains or PC, I see a battery with charging on the Zune screen for a couple of seconds, then it goes blank again. Also, when I plug into the PC and launch the Zune software, the device fails to come up. Holding down the < plus up on touchpad does not do anything either.
Strange that the battery may have completely died. It just seems to have happened because of NON-usage, which is strange. I would be very disapponted if MS would not support the device. There are many alternatives out there!
Anyway, let me know if you have anything else that I can try.
Thanks
Tom

2012-01-10T21:40:54+00:00 Many thanks for your prompt reply. I shall dig out a charger that plugs into the wall rather than the PC :) I don't think the cable is faulty, because when plugged into the PC, I see a very feint battery on the Zune screen for a few seconds before going blank again. I'll leave it charging overnight and see what happens. Much appreciated, take the rest of the day off..........TB
look at the output ratings. 5V at up to 1A is fine (I have a zune charger.)
