Windows 7, 64, Cannot print. Using HP desktop. Brother multifunction laser printer.

Printer was working okay. Then all of a sudden it quit printing. No error message.

Might have been an update. Was going to do restore, but no restore point that go back two weeks or so.

Printer is on the network. It is connected because I can scan from it to the PC

The dialog says Ready

Other PC on my home network can print to. Only my PC cannot.

When I open the screen that to see the print queue, it is empty.

When I go to properties to send a test page, I see the file appear briefly in the printer queue window and disappear.

Nothing happens. No error message, no popup, the printer doesn't turn on. When I look at properties, it says device is working correctly

When I run Mr. Fix it, say no errors detected.

I have been able to go to the command line and make the printer acknowledge (forgot exactly what it did, some command line codeI found on Internet)

But from Windows, when sending printing from an application, any application, it does absolute nothing.

It's like the printer file is going down a black hole without notifying me.

Any help appreciated. It is driving me crazy

    Hello Kenny,

Thank you for keeping us updated on the issue and please do accept my apologies for late response.

I would request you to follow the steps below and check.

Step 2: Create a restore point. You may refer to the following link for creating restore point:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows7/create-a-restore-point

Step 3: Boot your computer in the safe mode.

Step 4: Browse to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SPOOL\DRIVERS\w32x86 & delete its contents.

Step 5: Browse to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SPOOL\PRINTERS & delete its contents.

**How to back up and restore the registry in Windows**

    1. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows NT x86

View the list of subkeys (subfolders). There should only be the following subkeys:

    • DRIVERS
    • Print Processors

If any other subkey is present, then delete it.

    1. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows NT x86\Drivers & then look for Version 2 or Version 3, subkey. Delete the entries except Microsoft Shared Fax Driver & Microsoft XPS Document Viewer under the –Version-x.
    2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\ \Monitors and view the list of subkeys. There should only be the following subkeys for the default print monitors:
    • Local Port
    • Microsoft Shared Fax Monitor
    • Standard TCP/IP Port
    • USB Monitor
    • WSD Port

If, any other subkey is present then take registry backup & delete it.

Step 7: Exit the registry editor. If the printer is still connected then unplug it & restart the computer.

Step 8: Click Start and type in Run in Start Search and press Enter. Type in services.msc and click OK.

Check if the Print Spooler service is Started & Automatic.

Also check for the Dependencies for the Print Spooler service: Right click on the service and click properties and then click on the Dependencies tab. Make sure all the dependency services are running.

Step 9: Try to install the printer drivers again from the manufacturer’s website as given below:

    **Download Drivers**

Hope this information is helpful. Please do let us know the result, we’ll be glad to assist you.

    Thank you.

I did all that. My printer is a Brother 2280DW multi function. Still didn't work.

It is on the network. When I have it look for the printer, it shows that it is on IP 192.168.1.13.

I can go to that URL and it opens a web page for making setting and so on. I can even print a test page from there.

When I go to Add a Printer, it lists the printers (I have two, both have the same problem)

I select the printer. It asks me to install the driver.

When I try, it displays the message: "Cannot install the printer. Access is Denied."

When I install using the software from Brother's site, It doesn't print.  Brother has software for uninstalling all drivers for the printer.

The other two PCs can the printer install by going to add a printer selecting it and installing.

Can't do it on this PC.

I searched the internet, and there was a whole lot of stuff on this message that included stuff about local group policy that I didn't understand and didn't seem to fit my PC.

Have you tried removing and then re-adding the printer? If it was installed by installing software on your computer, uninstall using Programs and Features in Control Panel and then reboot and then reinstall.
