Effects from disabling itype.exe on startup?
Hello,
Very general and fairly SIMPLE question. I have a Microsoft Touch Mouse running Windows 8. It of course installed itype.exe and ipoint.exe in my startup group (due to the installation of Intellipoint).
Now I know if I disable ipoint I will lose some functionality of my mouse. However, I am using a Compaq laptop (CQ61-420US - not a Microsoft keyboard.) So should I look for any sort of reduced functionality if I disable itype.exe in startup?
Windows 8 grades both ITYPE and IPOINT as HIGH impact programs on startup.
Thanks for your help!

2014-10-27T07:11:36+00:00 The "i" stands for 'intelligent"...
iType.exe existed before iPod was invented! The same is valid for "iPaq" for the Compaq (later HP) range of Pocket PCs. Apple doesn't own the "i"!

2012-12-13T06:52:11+00:00 Hi themopar,
Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.
Here is the information about itype.exe service and what happens if you disable it.
1) What is itype.exe service?
itype.exe is a process belonging to Microsoft Intellitype Pro keyboard software. Disabling or enabling it is down to user preference.
Non-system processes like itype.exe originate from software you installed on your system. Since most applications store data in your system's registry, it is likely that your registry has suffered fragmentation and accumulated invalid entries which can affect your PC's performance.
2) Can I stop or remove itype.exe?
Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. itype.exe is used by 'Microsoft Intellitype Pro keyboard software’. This is an application created by 'Microsoft Corp'. To stop itype.exe permanently uninstall 'Microsoft Intellitype Pro keyboard software' from your system. Uninstalling applications can leave invalid registry entries, accumulating over time.
The itype process allows the user of the Microsoft Intellitype Pro Keyboard to use its extra buttons. It is good to take note that even without the process itype.exe; the keyboard will work just as fine but the extra buttons will be disable. This is possible since all operating system has a default driver for any keyboard. This is why any keyboard you connect to the computer works.
If you disable itype.exe your computer keyboard won’t lose any functionality, but itype.exe helps in using the short cut key feature which will be disabled

2013-02-06T18:24:23+00:00 Since you don't have a MS KB, just disable Itype and see if that takes care of the issue. Ipoint controls the features of the Touch Mouse and you might miss out on features that you use and paid for. Intellipoint install always installs both utilities even if you don't have a MS KB. It works fine without both installed.
