Disabling "Windows" key on Microsoft Sculpt Comfort mouse

Got the mouse as a present few days ago. The "Windows/Start" side button is extremely annoying and gets pressed accidentally on a regular basis. The sweep moves can be disabled through "mouse and keyboard center", but there is no option on disabling the button click itself.

What did one think when he made this decision? Like "This button is so supreme, who would like to disable it? Not like it is placed on the side in a way every little movement of your thumb presses it." Really?

    Update - Check Zorgovskiy answer.

The only solution that worked for me was to pry off the blue windows button shell, then rip out the button that's underneath. Then you can put the blue button shell back on and it will stop opening the windows menu all the time!

Bingo! And the swiping still works too. The perfect mod...thanks, B_982.

Hallelujah! Someone did listen. A year and a half later, the option was added to the "microsoft mouse and keyboard center" (Run your windows update).

Thank you, unknown developer and a manager who made it possible.

I must say, the mouse works very well until today.

Make sure you have the Mouse and Keyboard Center 2.3 installed and investigate the options for disabling or reassigning the mouse's 'Windows key' command button within that utility. By default, both swiping and clicking produce actions.

I don't have a Microsoft Sculpt Comfort mouse, and the options available within the configuration utility will differ depending on what hardware is attached to the computer. However, I've excerpted the following from the Mouse and Keyboard Center's information page.

    • Tailor your mouse and keyboard to meet your unique needs and work style.
    • Modify your mouse and keyboard settings to make it easier to use the unique features of most PC apps

Just download the 'Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center' from this URL: http://www.microsoft.com/accessories/en-us/downloads/mouse-keyboard-center

and you should be good to go. You can also change the function, and they offer support for multiple windows devices, including this mouse! Just did it myself.
