Windows 8 suddenly showing weird characters when typing, and other strange things with the mouse

I will start this by saying this is my own fault, and only got this bad because again.... my own fault. I do know some computer stuff, and excuse me if my English isn't perfect. Also call me out on it if I don't leave some important info and thanks already for reading this.

I'm pretty certain this is a software problem only, and I am even more certain this is related to windows 8(the only other thing i think it could be is Razer), but probably to even more versions. As you can probably understand, I run on windows 8. But I have not updated to 8.1

I also have had this problem before, but I was unable to find a solution. The thing is that back then, I had made a backup the week before so I simply put in the backup. But now I can only hope for an automated backup that is hidden somewhere and still accessible.

So this started when I was playing a game... I got a little annoyed and slided my hand over my keyboard. Then suddenly when i wanted to reply to someone it was showing me all kinds of weird characters. for example: an á when tying an a, a 1/4 when typing a six, deleting everything in the line when I pressed escape. that sort of stuff. But now it has changed again and I can only get 15 characters by pressing 1-0 and q-m I do have a password on my computer, so I am afraid to turn it off. In the end I might restarting if there is no solution in a couple of days.

what I first found out was:

  • First i looked at the language setting and it still showed ENG
  • It isn't my keyboard that is causing the problem, other keyboards do the same thing

Now my friend started helping me out by looking things up on the internet, because I started to flip out(we were in a skype call). Then I tried to use the control panel too fix the language settings. Here I was trying to change the language I typed in to find out if anything was wrong with that, so now i have ENG from the United Kingdom, United States, Dutch... then i suddenly realized there was a new one. ENG INTL, but that one shows it is United Kingdom and United States- k...(something which is too long to see)

So... my keyboard is acting weird, and I don't know what to do or anything and being the addict I sometimes am I go in panic mode. I don't recall very well what I did after that but it wasn't much more than mashing the keyboard again too see if something changes. BIG MISTAKE. I think it was from that moment on everything was acting weird:

  • I couldn't search for anything, everything was asking for permission when it opened
  • ctrl+alt+delete doesn't work, just as windows+r, ctr+shift+esc
  • my mouse was acting like control was continually being pushed down: if I clicked on a program it would highlight, if I clicked on others it would add them to the highlight
  • when I press RMB it will open the menu which should appear, but it will then close it almost immediately in less then a second
  • the windows sidebar stops popping up, and basically everything of the 'new windows features' from windows 8 stopped working( the screen with the squares and stuff, i don't know what it's called)
  • suddenly it copied every single thing on my desktop when I tried something with my mouse
  • it shows the properties when i double click any program on my desktop
  • I can only open things which are located anywhere on the bottom bar

I can't do anything and now I'm here, before I make more stupid decisions. Please help me out anyone!

Hi,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.

I understand how frustrating it is when your keyboard and mouse do not work properly.

I hope my suggestions help you in resolving the issue.

As the keyboard and mouse are not working properly please refer to the below link to get an alternative method to use keyboard and mouse using the “EASE OF ACCESS”

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/what-accessibility-features-windows-offer#1TC=windows-7

Using the on-screen keyboard please follow the below steps to fix the issue.

Method 1:  Hardware and devices troubleshooter

The hardware and devices troubleshooter can detect and fix errors and incorrect settings in devices. You can refer these steps to run this troubleshooter:

  1. Press “Windows key +X”, select Control panel
  2. Change the view by option on the top right to Large icons
  3. Click on troubleshooting and click on the view all option on the left panel
  4. Run the Hardware and devices troubleshooter.

Restart the computer once you run the troubleshooter and check if the issue is resolved.

Method 2: Clean Boot

  1. Please follow the below link to perform clean boot.

  3. Click on “Windows 8 and Windows 8.1” below that.
  4. You will find the steps to perform Clean Boot with the screenshots.
  5. Clean boot will help you in running the system with minimum set of required programs so that no other software or program conflicts the windows update process.

After you have finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to boot to normal startup.

  1. Press the ‘Windows + R’ key on the keyboard.
  2. In the ‘Run’ windows type ’MSCONFIG’ and click ‘Ok’.
  3. On the ‘General’ tab, click the ‘Normal Startup’ option, and then click ‘OK’.
