"Bluetooth radio device is not available" - Troubleshooting help

I've been going around several places looking for an answer with no luck. So I'll try asking. Hopefully, this is understandable.

I have a HP Windows 7 64 bit

Here is what I have been doing. I just got a new bluetooth (bt) headset. My bt was able to discover the headset, but it would always fail trying to connect to it. I did go looking for solutions for this, but I turned over nothing. So I decided to try and remove/uninstall the headset devise and yet again I could not find how to do this. In the end I ended up following the instructions from this thread:

Help in Reinstalling the Bluetooth Drivers on my laptop

Step 1: Start the Bluetooth service.

  1. Click Start, type services.msc and hit enter.
  2. From the list of items, double click Bluetooth Support Service.
  3. Change the startup type to Automatic and click Start button to start service.
  4. Click Apply and then click ok.

Step 2:

Uninstall and re-install the drivers for your Bluetooth device and then check for the issue.

You may use the device manager to uninstall and reinstall the Bluetooth device drivers.

Follow the steps to check the Bluetooth drivers in device manager:

a. Click Start, then type ‘Device Manager’ without quotes in the search box.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

b. Locate the Bluetooth device by expanding the categories.

c. Now you may right-click the listed drivers Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network) and Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI), here you will get all the option to update or Install/uninstall drivers. Click on Uninstall.

d. Check if at all there is an exclamation mark along the driver, it suggests issues with the driver installed.

e. Restart the computer. This will let the computer automatically detect the device drivers on restart of the computer.

After the restart my bt installed with no problems. All my previous bt devices are now gone (i.e. cell phones, stereo), but I expected that, so it's fine. But now my problem is I now get the "Bluetooth radio device is not available". So now my bt is not detecting anything.

I've tried following other threads in troubleshooting this problem, but I am not finding anything at fault. I went back into the services.msc and re-stopped the Bluetooth Support Service. In the Device Manager under Bluetooth Radio I have two devices, Generic Bluetooth Adapter and Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator. For both of these devices their statuses are given as "This device is working properly". I checked for updates, but there are none. I've checked for regular updates on my computer, but there is nothing for bt.

This is not going to require a Bluetooth adapter is it? Because if it does I'm just going to do a System Reset and put my computer back a week.

Any help you may suggest is appreciated.

Thank you for replying. Sorry I didn't get back to this earlier, but I became busy with work which required me to use my bluetooth. I ended up resolving the matter by doing a systems reset. My bluetooth works fine, except it still refused to connect to the headset that started this whole matter. I resolved this issue by exchanging them for a different headset that has no issues connecting to my bluetooth. Problem solved...sort of.

Again thank you.
