Acrobat 8.0 and windows 8.1

I have read that acrobat 8 works with windows 8.1.  However I have just replaced an old PC with new Dell PC with windows 8.1 and cannot get my original Acrobat 8 pro software to work.  Programme seems to install but does not work.  Asks for AdobePDF.dll but providing this from another machine doesn't work either.

Adobe simply want to sell the latest version but since I don't use it that often that's not an option.   There don't appear to be any upgrades to 8.0 available.

Any thoughts?

Hi thanks for this.  Just as well that I'm retired or I would never have the time for this!  However I've got a result.  Here's how.

First, I found a reference on here which directed folk to AdobePDF.dll in a folder next to the one which the installer looks for - AMD64.  This meant that I could use my original CD and Acrobat 8.0 installed.

I then found a clean version of Acrobat 8.1 on the net and installed the upgrade.

Next, and this was crucial, I directed Outlook to the specific Acrobat dll for Office by adding it into to the add ins (even though it appeared to be there already).

Eh voila!   I now have Acrobat version 8.1 working as I would wish with all Office 2007.

I now have Acrobat version 8.1 working...

I never said you couldn't get Acrobat 8 working (installed).

    Is Acrobat v8.3.1 installed now?

Rhetorical question: Since Acrobat v8.3.1 was released on 13 September 2011 and since no further updates for Acrobat 8 are available and since support for Acrobat 8 ended on 03 November 2011, is it safe (secure) to use Acrobat 8 on your computer? [NO!]

    WYSIWYG, I'm afraid.

Adobe Acrobat 8 hasn't been supported (i.e., no security updates have been released) since 03 November 2011; cf. http://blogs.adobe.com/adobereader/2011/09/adobe-reader-and-acrobat-version-8-end-of-support.html

And Adobe stopped offering free upgrades for Acrobat 8 (i.e., to Acrobat 11) on 31 May 2013.

Have you tried installing Adobe Reader XI (v11.0.9)? => http://get.adobe.com/reader/

    • BEWARE the pre-checked options to "drive-by" install possibly-unwanted, third-party software (e.g., Google Toolbar; Google Chrome)!

You will find support for Adobe Acrobat in this forum: http://forums.adobe.com/community/acrobat/acrobat_windows
