.NET Framework 4 refusing to install after many solution attempts

Hi there.

I posted this before, but no one comes with an appropriate solution, and many seems to treat as this was a common recurrent installation problem.

So, please take note of these before answering:

* I've searched thoroughly for similar problems, no one ever had this exact problem with .NET 4 installer.

* I'm using a fresh and optimized installation of Windows 7 Professional 32-bit, all drivers installed and everything is functional.

* I've already checked the installer integrity (i'm using the offline installer), the file system health, and all the permission issues on the hard drive and registry, everything is ok.

* The installation log is not being created, so the only thing i have is the windows report information.

* According to this information and to similar problems, it could be either a registry permission issue or an issue with the previous .NET version on the system, but, the previous version was built-in, so i had to purge it manually, there was no way to uninstall it.

* I wiped out every single trace of the previous .NET framework on the system, both from the hard drive and the registry, using every key related, like "netfx" "netframework" ".NET" "aspnet" "asp.net" "net_framework" "net framework" "microsoft.net" etc, and i complemented this manual purging with Wise Registry Cleaner, to remove any registry entries related to the deleted ones, and to solve any other issues created by this.

* The installer still refuses to install after all of this (yes, I'm surely executing it as administrator, and msiexec service is working fine, other similar installers work normally too).

*Edit: I've enabled Windows Update service too, once it may be required, but the installer still doesn't work.

*Edit: The process fails and roll back when trying to install the net framework 4 client profile

I had a similar problem trying to install Microsoft Office 2010, after the previous office installtion got corrupted, and i had to purge it manually, same thing, installer started, and then rolled back everything, and claimed to have registry issues, even after i purged everything i could from the system. I couldn't solve it, I had to re-install the whole operational system.

Here's the Windows Report data:

Hello Guilherme,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community Forum.

  1. What is the KB number of the failing updates?
  2. Do you remember making any changes to the system prior to this issue?
  3. Which security software are you using on your computer?

Kindly refer the steps to check KB number of windows updates:

  1. Click Start, type Update in the search box, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Update.
  2. In the navigation pane, click View update history.
  3. Click Status to sort by status, and then look for any updates that have a status of "Failed."

Right-click an update that has a status of "Failed," and then select View Details. The window that opens displays the error code for that update.

For reference: See which Windows updates are installed

Let's try the following methods and check if the issue still persists.

Method 1: Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter from the link below.

Open the Windows Update troubleshooter

Method 2: Run a Fixit to reset Windows Update components.

Note: If running fixit does not fix the issue, follow the manual steps in the above link.

Important this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Back up the registry

Method 3: Perform Clean boot and then try to install the update manually.

Putting your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. You need to follow the steps from the article mentioned below to perform a Clean Boot.

Refer to the link to perform clean boot.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

Note: Refer "How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting" to reset the computer to start as normal after troubleshooting.

Method 4: Run the Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool

For more information:

You can manually download and install the updates from Microsoft download center.

Hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to reply in case you face any other issues with Windows in future.

Thank you.
