Original Title: Windows 8.1 update stuck at 67%

I have a Dell laptop running Windows 8.1.  It has been running fine - no problems.  It is set to do automatic updates.  When I went to shut it down tonight (11/11/2014) I got a choice to either update and shut off or update and restart.  I selected update and restart.  For the last couple of hours the message on the screen has read "Working on updates - 67% complete - don't turn off your computer".  It seems stuck at 67%.  The percent complete isn't changing and I don't see the drive light flashing so it doesn't appear to be making any progress.  I haven't made any changes to the computer, added any programs , apps, or new hardware.  I'm afraid to turn off the power switch because I'm afraid it won't re-start.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks Giridhar J -

The problem seems to be resolved.  After a couple of hours at the "67% complete - don't turn off your computer" screen I finally decided just to take my chances and power off.  An hour or so later when I turned the computer back on it gave me the option to start in safe mode or just boot to Windows normally.  I selected to start at regular Windows.  It next said to wait while Windows was being prepared - which went fine.  No more hang ups and everything is working OK.  I checked the status of Windows updates as you suggested and saw that a number of updates did install successfully with no failures.  Whatever the problem was it seems to have fixed itself.  Thanks for your response.
