I keep getting a pop up from driver restore that says that it is a microsoft partner and that I have drivers that need to be updated.  I am concerned that it may be a virus? Is it?  I googled it and it said to install hitman to get rid of it

Hi,

It is not recommended that you get Drivers though Windows Updates, unless they are for Microsoft's Hardware.

Sometimes Microsoft gives you Updates for 3rd Party Hardware: Graphics, Network Adaptors, etc.

You should only obtain the latest Drivers for them from the actual Computer/Laptop Hardware Manufacturer's website, as Microsoft normally does nor have those latest Drivers available as Microsoft relies of the 3rd Party Hardware Manufacturer to supply them.

To get rid of those popups about Drivers, scan for Malware:

Download, install, update and scan your System with the free version of Malwarebytes Antimalware:

http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes\_free

Ths is a very good Program to scan your System to remove Adware, etc:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/

AdwCleaner is a program that searches for and deletes Adware, Toolbars, Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUP), and browser Hijackers from your computer.  By using AdwCleaner you can easily remove many of these types of programs for a better user experience on your computer and while browsing the web.

Cheers.

Hi Larry,

Please follow the steps provided in this Removal Guide: http://malwaretips.com/blogs/landing-driverrestore-com-virus/

Note: Steps 1 through 4 should be sufficient. Normally, it's not necessary  to use HitmanPro.

I'll move this thread to the Virus and Malware Forum.

Cheers,

Julia

    Hi Larry,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Communities.

As per your description, you did mention that you are getting random pop up’s stating to update your drivers. Driver restore is the third party utility and Microsoft doesn’t recommend the use of 3rd party driver update software. Instead we suggest to get your drivers from the Windows Updates or directly from the manufacturers website.

Here are few troubleshooting steps to try resolving the issue, Follow the steps provided below:

Method 1 - Uninstall “Driver restore” from your computer.

    Steps-

    a) Click on the Start Menu and click on Control Panel to open.

    b) Once you open Control Panel click on Programs to open and search for Driver restore.

    c) Then Click on Driver restore to Uninstall from the Programs list.

A reboot is required to make the changes.

I tried getting rid of Driver Restore awhile back but was unsuccessful.

Now I cannot find it to uninstall!

Nor is it in my Chrome Extensions!

    What do I do?
