Which physical harddisk does "\Device\HarddiskVolume4" refer to?

In BCDEdit, but also in EventViewer, the term "\Device\HarddiskVolume?" is used to reference a specific harddisk (or "volume"?). How do I need to interpret that name? When you look into Disk Management it lists "Disk 0" to Disk X", and those disks have "volumes" (or partitions). But how do the two correlate with each other?

The most likely answer is "HarddiskVolume1" stands for "Disk 0" in Disk Management. But I think I have seen cases where this is not true (I might be wrong...)

    Hi,

Refer to the article and check if it helps:

    your link is not helpful.

isn't it easier to answer the question than just post a link that you had to research to find anyway?

His question is pretty specific and I am sure he searched for "disk management" before he posted his question.
