Hi folks, I'm looking for recommendations on good, free, backup software for windows 7. I've been using the built-in backup software in windows and find it to be a bit lacking in functionality. Right now my windows backups get sent to a SAMBA share, but I cannot adjust how often it does full backups, and as such, it's eating up my disk space.. What are you guys using?

I have Win 7 on a separate drive from my data. to back up Win 7, I'm using aomei backupper(http://www.backup-utility.com/features/) once a week to make a full image. I also make an image before making any changes, such as trying out a new program. That way, if something goes pear shaped, I can restore win 7 using a previous image. Aomei backupper also supports backuping files. backup HDDs

acronis true image for me is the best backup for win 7. Never failed a restore, saved a lot of potential problems. I definitely suggest to have a try on that. Now there is a new 2015 version.

There are some suggestions in this post - http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-system/best-product-to-restore-win-7-desk-top-after-hard/8484178b-c2d7-4607-ad77-8c062f93ddee but not all those mentioned are free.

You can also look on sites like CNET to get some ideas and basic reviews of what is available and then research from that - http://download.cnet.com/windows/backup-software/?licenseType=Free&osNamesExact=Windows+7&sort=editorRating~desc%2CdownloadCountLastWeek~desc and order them under editors or users rating perhaps.
