Logitech mouse M187 does not work on W8

After a previous Windows update my corded Logitech mouse did not work anymore. Because I had switched from W7 to W8 I assumed it had something to do with that. I bought a cordless Logitech M187 mouse with supported W8. After installing the mouse it was recognised as a 'unknown' USB receiver. I have updated all USB ports with the latest software but no result. Are there any suggestions available how I can fix this, because I'm not a touchpad lover.

Hello i think this may help you.

    Before connecting your mouse:

    1. Fix or rule out the potential problems listed above.
    2. Turn your computer on.
    3. Insert fresh batteries in your mouse. For instructions on changing your mouse battery, see answer 28885.
    4. Turn on your mouse.

    Reconnecting your mouse

    1. Download the correct version of Logitech SetPoint Mouse and Keyboard Software from the M187 [Downloads page](http://www.logitech.com/support/9578?section=downloads).
    2. Press the **Windows** key + **R** to Run.
    3. Type C:\Program Files\Logitech\SetPointP\ConnectUtility.exe and press **Enter**.
    4. Follow the on-screen instructions to turn your mouse off and then back on.

    1. When your mouse is detected, you'll see a confirmation message. Select Yes and then click Next. Otherwise, repeat from step #4.

    1. Click Finish to exit the Logitech Unifying Software. Your mouse should now be connected.

If this solution doesn't work after a couple of attempts, restart your computer and try the reconnection process again.

I hope this help's if you have any more questions feel free to reply back.

Hi, thanks for your quick and clear response. I just tried the instructions you provided. I'm sorry to tell but it has not worked until now. The instruction stopped at item 4, the laptop recognises the USB receiver, but the programm tells me there's no wireless receiver attached. Any other suggestions?
