I am having a problem with media player of windows 7.

The problem is,

When i play a video, even sample default of windows video(names wildlife), it only plays the sound(music)but no video.

Same is the problem with commonly used formats of videos (neighter from CD,DVD Nor from Hard drive saved videos),which can normally run on Windows xp and 7.

Plz resolve the issue.

Thanks....

Rgds,

    Hi,

This could be happening on your computer because the “Now playing” window has been hidden on the media player. This can be fixed by un-hiding it. Here are the instructions.

Method 1: On the bottom right of the media player, to the most right of the volume option, there will be an option called “switch to now playing”. Play a video and click on this option to un-hide the “Now playing” window.

If this still does not help you, you can run the windows media player troubleshooter to fix this by itself. Refer the below article for more help with this issue.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Windows-Media-Player-Settings-troubleshooter

Method 2: Uninstalling and Reinstalling the Windows Media Player:

Step 1: Uninstalling the Windows Media Player:

     1. Go to Start and in the search type "Turn Windows features On or Off".

     2. Click on "Turn Windows features On or Off".

     3. Browse to the Media Features and uncheck the mark in front of Windows Media Player.

     4. Restart the computer

Step 2: Reinstalling the Windows Media Player:

     1. Go to Start and in the search type "Turn Windows features On or Off".

     2. Click on "Turn Windows features On or Off".

     3. Browse to the Media Features and place a check mark in front of Windows Media Player.

     4. Restart the Computer.

    Hope this information helps you!

Neither of these solutions worked for me. I still only get sound and a static image of the first frame of the video.

The only way I can get a .wmv video to play properly is to imbed it in a ppt slide.

Please help me resolve this problem.

Try downloading and installing this Codec pack:

    http://download.cnet.com/Codec-Pack-Advanced/3000-13632\_4-10354286.html?tag=rbxcrdl1

I'm running Windows 8.1, but the pack was designed for and should work with Windows 7.

My issue was the same, but with a .mpg file. Media Player just picked one specific file to not show the video for. All the other .mpg's in my collection worked just fine. Very strange.

FYI - You'll need to restart for the new codecs to take effect and allow your video to play as it should. The only issue I'm still experiencing is a crash of the Media Player when I try to advance the video... so I just let it play through from the beginning. That's a problem for another day.

Unfortunately... give up with WMP - although it remains part of the OS it is largely ignored by MS and has become generally unreliable. I'd try VLC player which is a highly regarded free download. If you try that and still have problems we'll need to dig deeper, but WMP is the likely culprit! - R.
