ok so I have 8.1 and media player 11; want to stream live F1 racing and every site that has the availability to watch for free ask me to download Media Player 12.3 as I soon found out it is a potential Trojan. So I have not downloaded, yet I still cannot see these races due to that none will let me do so unless I have 12.3 Media Player!!!!

So what do I do at this point? Can I get this Media Player update installed, because I cant find anywhere where I can unless I do it from those Racing sites and every time I try my Virus protector stops and quarantine the Trojan; is there "Not" such a 12.3 Media player download update.. Thanks

    I think the website is lying to you.  Version 12.0 is the newest available version of the official Windows Media Player.

    You can check the version you have by opening it directly, right-click near the top toolbar, and go to Help / About.  Like this:

    I would not trust a site that is trying to trick you into downloading a virus.

    @Shawn - Yes I checked - as you noted; 12.0

    Went back online and seen that all of those 12.3 recommendations on racing sites are Adware's. Read from different post on other sites about them;  people are downloading that scam and now having issues trying to get rid of the virus embed in their computer...

    I have also ran into a different mandatory request to download as I went back online today searching. They some are saying to download 12.3 or 12. 7 but also others are mentioning HD download... without you doing any of these, supposedly you cant watch the races....

    So my Q has now changed to; all these legit sites are getting hacked, I presume, and now their site is basically worthless until they get rid of this pop up am I correct or is the whole site a scam?

    Hers a one of many sites having this issue:

    Are you sure the site is not specifically referring to Adobe Flash Player?
