cannot install canon Selphy CP910 drivers in Windows 8.1(64bit)

I have tried every possible thing I can think of and cannot install the printer driver for the Canon Selphy CP910 printer on my Dell Inspiron laptop running Windows 8.1 (64). I have tried to install it with compatibility mode as it will install on my wife's Windows 7 computer. I have turned off my anti virus and firewall.  I have gone to Canon support people and they say it should install that there is something going on with my computer preventing its installation and it's not there problem. Surely there is someone out in the community that has (or couldn't) install this driver on a WINDOWS 8.1 laptop. At this point I believe it is Canon's problem. but they adamantly say NO. PLEASE ANYONE HELP111111111.

KKling, I had the same problem. I did not notice anyone posting in reply the solution that worked for me, so I am responding for the sake of anyone who might follow with the same problem. The solution that worked for me was to right-click on the setup.exe file with the disc that came with the printer and then selecting "run as administrator." After a successful install, I did not uninstall it in order to test the downloadable driver from Canon's web site, but I am fairly confident it will work in the same manner.

    Thanks Linney,

Following your suggestion still results in the message "driver did not install".

    Thanks Xircal,

I followed your steps to a "T" and still no luck.

it goes through it's stuff and finds the printer wirelessly than attempts to "creating folder" with a 0% below it. Tan several seconds later you get a message that says "driver did not install. Don't know where to go from here as Canon says it should install?????

If Xircal's suggestion doesn't help, have you tried the following?

Try right-clicking on the actual Driver Setup.exe and selecting the "Run As Administrator" option?  Do so even if your user is an Admin.

    Hi KK,

    Please do the following.

Download the Selphy drivers from the Canon site here (unless you have them already): http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/printers_multifunction/compact_photo_printers/selphy_cp910#DriversAndSoftware

If the printer is connected to the computer, disconnect it.

    1. Next, right click the Start button and go to Control Panel.
    2. If you have the Category view, click the link top right and change it to "Small icons".
    3. Click the link to Windows Update and then in the menu top left, click "Change Settings".
    4. In the Settings menu, change whatever you have configured to "Never check for updates". I'll explain in a minute why this is necessary.
    5. Next, click the arrow top left twice to take you back to Control Panel and then click "System".
    6. In the System menu, click the link top left to "Advanced system settings" and then click the "Hardware" tab.
    7. Next, click the "Device Installation Settings" button and then checkmark "No, let me choose what to do" and then checkmark "Never install driver software from Windows  Update".
    8. Finally, click "Save Changes" to exit.

The reason you have to set Windows Update to "Never check for updates" in step #4 is to prevent  the Add New Hardware Wizard from running silently in the background and which installs a generic driver for the machine if it can't find one on the Internet.

After completing all eight steps above, run the printer drivers file you downloaded earlier and then reboot.

Test the printer to make sure it's functioning properly and then revert to your previous Windows Update settings in step #4.

I would recommend you leave the other menu to use Windows to update drivers as disabled because it doesn't uninstall the existing drivers before installing the new ones. That can cause system instability.

If there's anything you don't understand, please don't hesitate to ask.
