I have Windows Service Pack 1 installed on my computer running Vista Ultimate 64bit. I tried to install Windows Service pack 2 64bit and received the following message:

Windows has detected unsupported language files

To continue, obtain a version of the service pack that supports the language files listed below. Or, uninstall the language files listed below and then restart the installation.

Arabic (Saudi Arabia)

Thai (Thailand)

Chinese (Simplified, PRC)

Chinese (Traditional, Hong Kong S.A.R.)

How do I uninstall those language files?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi, I managed to find the solution to my problem:

How to remove a language pack

    Start button

, and then click Control Panel.

In Control Panel, click Clock-Language, and Region, click Regional and Language Options,

On the Keyboard and Languages tab, click Install/uninstall languages under Display language.

    User Account Control permission

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.

In Choose to install or remove languages, click Remove languages.

Under Select the languages that you want to remove, select the language that you want to remove, and then click Next.

Click the language that you want to remove, and then click Remove.

When (exact date, preferably) did you purchase the computer?

Was it a brand-new computer or a used (refurbished) computer when you purchased it?

Did you just have occasion to use those recovery disks to do a clean install of Vista for some reason and if not, why wasn't SP2 installed years ago?

Hi, As mentioned earlier, I was able to delete the Language files which prevented me installing SP2. I have now successfully installed Vista SP2 64bit and everything appears to be working OK. Many thanks for your concern to assist.

Yes, I used the recovery discs to do a clean reinstall of Vista.

Think it was Feb 2009. It is a Sony Laptop VGN AW27GY and I bought it new with the preloaded software. When I first started it up I was required to make a set of recovery disks (which I did).

The VAIO AW is equipped with a 18.4-inch 16:9 Real Wide LCD that and came preloaded with full HD/Adobe® RGB expressiveness for photos from image Adobe® Photoshop®Lightroom® / Adobe® Premier® Elements and a Blu-ray Disc™ combo drive. I believe that this Sony Laptop was the first laptop to have a Blu-ray Disc instead of the usual DVD.

As I mentioned in my earlier question I have found how to delete those language files - which I have now done. I will try to install Windows Service pack 2 64bit again and see what happens.
