    Hi Nors51,

Thanks for posting in this forum. You are getting a prompt for npctrl.dll. Please let me know if my understanding is incorrect.

The file npctrl.dll is associated with Silverlight and a digitally non signed file. There is a KB article on this issue. Refer the link.

The Microsoft Silverlight add-on is listed as Not Verified in Microsoft Internet Explorer

It is part of Silverlight.  When I upgraded to a new computer I started noticing the same error alerts while reading the NY Times. It appears that Silverlight does not play will with a 64-bit version of IE. The easiest thing to do might be to simply disable Silverlight by going to "Manage add-ons". You can also uninstall Silverlight, but then you'd get the messages asking you if you want to install Silverlight.

Microsoft has sort of abandoned the Silverlight technology in favor of HTML5, but it's use lives on, especially at internet marketing companies that have previously invested in the technology. If you disable Silverlight, the most likely thing that will happen is that you will see a different set of ads.

Hello Nors51. npctrl.dll  is a file that is part of Silverlight which is available as a plug-in for web browsers running under Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. . Silverlight is Microsoft's version of Adobe Flash should I say so you may need it. One solution would be to remove Silverlight but you would also have to look in your registry to make sure the file is deleted or to play it safe download CCLEANER TO CLEAN THE REGISTRY. When we download software or any type of files there or many files that are left in the registry even after removing the software. Make sure to always backup your system before making any changes to you system or at least note all current settings before

    making changes.

There are no warnings of it being unsafe as far as I know.

I got tired of seeing the message to add that Silverlight add-on- and finally did, but didn't noctice any changes to my web viewing so as long as it doesn't cause any problems I'll keep it. There are a few web sites I need frequently that do require Silverlight.

But, we'd all like to know what "npctrl.dll " is. I see a request to install this practically every day.
