Original Title:Something wrong with USB and Turning off / Restarting my laptop.

Hello everybody,

I got a strange problem about my USB.

Firstly, my laptop model is Lenovo G410 and i am using Microsoft Windows 7 x64 bit..

When i boot my laptop, everything was working fine, my mouse and my (external usb) keyboard is working properly.

But sometime, it stop working suddenly, or at least when i unplug the device from my laptop.

For example, if i remove the usb keyboard from my laptop, when i plug in it again (no matter which usb ports i am using), it won't work but another usb device (such as mouse) that still attached to the laptop will working properly, but once i remove the mouse too, and replug it again, the mouse won't work. It apply to every device.

I tried to do Device Manager -> Action -> Scan for hardware changes but it keep showing "Scanning Plug and Play compliant hardware..." and it never completed (even i am waiting for at least 2 hours, it took so long, so i decide to kill the mmc.exe process via task manager to close it). Also, the option "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is unticked for every items under "Universal Serial Bus controller" in Device manager.

Also, I check the Windows Update, but it say "Windows is up to date", I also tried to download Intel Update Utility from the official website (http://www.intel.com/p/en\_US/support/detect) to detect the latest driver, but everything was the latest version.

Finally, I attempt to restart my laptop (or shut down it), sometime it restarted / turned off properly, but its often stuck at "Shutting down.." for few mins (or even it could take 1 hour) then BSOD appear to my screen, it so fast and i couldn't write the message.

its often happen, and its really annoying

I hope someone could help me

Thanks in advance!

EDIT:

I forgot to tell about this. after the system keep showing me "Shutting Down...", sometime, I managed to remove the power source of my laptop (and the battery of course) after that, I turn on my laptop.

After the desktop loaded, there is a message box

"Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown

Windows can check online for solution to the problem the next time you go online."

    Hi,

Thank you for posting on the Microsoft Community.

I am sorry to know that you have issues while restarting or shutting down the system, using USB drives, other system errors. It could be due to virus, corrupt system files, hardware or software issues.

You can try the below methods.

    For issues with USB:

    Method 1.

I suggest you to run hardware and devices troubleshooter and check if it helps.

    a. Open the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel.

    b. In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting.

    c. Under Hardware and Sound, click Configure a device.‌ If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

If issue persists, then go to method 2.

    Method 2.

To uninstall and re-install the USB Controllers from Device Manager follow these steps.

    1. Go to the Start, in the search box, type Device Manager.
    2. Click on Device Manager.
    3. Click on USB Controllers to expand.
    4. Right click on the USB Controllers that is listed and uninstall and follow onscreen instructions. Then restart the computer.

you need to install the latest chipset drivers from manufacturer's website.

    http://www.notebook-driver.com/lenovo/lenovo-g410-laptop-drivers-software/

    For issues with shutdown/restarting:

    Method 1.

Try to boot the system in Safe Mode.

Windows Startup Settings (including safe mode):

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-safe-mode

If you are able to get to Safe Mode, then try Clean Boot.

Clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program in Windows 8.1. It starts Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: After troubleshooting, refer to this section "How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting" in the above link.

    Method 2.

System File Checker is a utility in Microsoft Windows that allows users to scan for and restore corruptions in Windows system files. Perform System File Check (SFC), and then check if this fixes the issue.

Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files: https://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833/en-us?wa=wsignin1.0

Note: It may ask for windows installation DVD to fix and to enable SFC to make more than minor repairs. Some files saved on your computer might get deleted when fixing corrupted files.

    For blue screen errors:

Refer the below link and try all the steps mentioned in that link.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Resolving-stop-blue-screen-errors-in-Windows-7

System Restore disclaimer: When you use System Restore to restore the computer to a previous state, programs and updates that you installed are removed.

    Chkdsk disclaimer:

Important: While performing chkdsk on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found on the hard drive when chkdsk tries to repair that sector if any data available on that might be lost.

To understand the issue better, we may need event log.

    To check Event Viewer.

Note: If still the issue persists, login to the computer in normal mode and then check if there are events created under Event Viewer. Follow the steps to collect the logs under Event Viewer:

    1. Go to the Start, in the search box, type Event Viewer. This will bring up the Event Viewer tile, Click to open the Event Viewer.
    2. In the left pane, expand out Windows Logs. Click on Application log and highlight the first event in the log and use your arrow keys to scroll down.
    3. Most of your event will be Information. You may see Yellow Warnings or Red Errors. If you see any red error, you can double click on it to bring it up and copy the contents to a document. You can post events in the next reply.
    4. You can also refer the link Open Event Viewer: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/open-event-viewer#1TC=windows-7

Hope this helps in resolving the issue. If issue persists, do get back to us. We will be happy to assist you.

    You are welcome.

Thank you for replying. I appreciate you time and patience for trying to fix the issue and for providing such a detailed description.

    For Issues with the USB:

Glad to know that the issue was fixed after by trying the 3^rd^ method (installing the USB driver).

For Issues with the Shutdown / Restarting:

You have tried Clean Boot and SFC scan. Good to know that no errors were found. If issue re-occurs then you can get back to us.

    For Blue Screen error:

Chkdsk refers to the last section in the above link. Refer “Check your computer for hard disk and memory errors”.

Check Disk will automatically fix file system errors and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors on the hard drive.

Hope this helps. If issue persists do get back to us. We will be happy to assist you.

Hi thanks for the reply! and sorry for the late reply.

    For Issues with the USB:

I tried every method, and it seem the 3rd method (installing the usb driver) its solve the problem.

I don't know, i installed it when i am done installing the windows, i thought the driver is not the same that i got from the cd driver.

But after i am checking it, it the same! its even listed on Control Panel -> Uninstall Programs before I am installing this, after its installed, i restart my computer and try to unplug and plug in it again some usb devices, and its still working properly!

For Issues with the Shutdown / Restarting:

    1. I did a Clean boot and then nothing happen, I switch it back to normal startup.
    2. Edit: I did SFC /scannow and it say **Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.**which means that my system don't have any missing or corrupted system files.

Also, whether this fixed or not yet, i am not really sure, it happen randomly.

So what i can do is just back here if the problem still occur.

    For bluescreen error:

    1. I tried this before posting this, and i don't know, now there is not System Restore Point.
    2. How can I do chkdsk?

like shutdown / restarting, it happen randomly, so i am not sure if it will be fixed or not when i am done with  chkdsk

Oh, and I tried to open Control Panel -> System and Security -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer but there is one error in System and there is no Error in Application. here the messages:
