Strange Grey Boxes on File Icons

For some reason, on almost every file in my whole Program Files (x86) directory, there is a small grey box with a backslash through it, on the lower left corner of every icon. Right after I discovered this, I noticed that most of my programs located here are not running properly, or not starting at all. Coincidence? This image is just in the Steam folder, but it's the same in every other one. I'm currently running the latest version of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit if it matters.

Looks like the aftermath of a Norton backup to me.
