Have you tried the laptop manufacture's support web site to download and install the driver?

I am attempting to fix my sister's laptop, so I'll start with what she told me about the issue, then describe what I have done so far.
Her computer updated to 8.1 automatically a few days ago, and everything was fine. However, today it refused to connect to the wireless internet. Upon logging in, it will connect briefly, but them the entire wireless system will shut off and refuse to even look for possible connections.
When I started taking a look at it, I found the message "Reinstall Intel Proset Wireless/Bluetooth" in her Action Center. I realized that the old version no longer works with 8.1; however, I was unable to do so on her computer as it will no longer connect to the internet. I attempted to repair the program under "Programs and Features", but with no success. I then removed the program entirely, and downloaded the most recent installer to a USB drive using my own computer. I ran it and successfully installed it on her machine, however the problem is still uncorrected.
When I attempted to simply refresh the system, the refresh program crashed and reported an inability to refresh. So, that's all I've got. I am officially out of ideas. Any help that can be offered would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to JW Stuart, I am now able to connect to the internet. I attempted to use the Intel Driver Utility, and it discovered two out of date drivers: Intel Iris and HD Graphics driver, and Intel Proset/wireless software and drivers.
However, the Proset is reported as "unavailable" when I attempt to download it. The HD driver installed fine.
Alright, a clean boot enabled me to connect to the internet again. Now I'm going to try and pinpoint what exactly was causing the problem. Thank you for the help!
Can you connect through Ethernet and download the latest driver?
You can also use the Intel Driver Update utility to do the update for it:

How to perform a Clean Boot:
(Note: Select your version of Windows for the correct set of instructions)
A clean boot is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program in Windows.

One by one add back one application at a time into the boot list to find the offending software app.
