Help for a Novice...

I just logged in to my computer and receive the following Microsoft .NET framework dialogue box:

Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.

But clicking on anything - does nothing.  And the dialogue box won't go away.  This is the 2nd time this has happended.  The first time I received the information below when clicking on details:

Unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application.  If you click continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

See the end of this message for details on invoking

just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************

To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this

application or computer (machine.config) must have the

jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.

The application must also be compiled with debugging

enabled.

For example:

<configuration>

    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />

</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception

will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer

rather than be handled by this dialog box.

    Hi Karna,

    I will be glad to assist you with the issue you are experiencing with your computer. I understand the difficulty when things don’t work the way it should.

    This issue occurs if the .net framework is corrupted on the computer or due to a malware.

    Method 1:

    I would suggest you to boot the computer to safe mode and check if the issue occurs or not. If the issue does not occur in Safe mode, set the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.

    Step 1:

    Refer the article and check if it helps.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7

    Step 2:

    If the issue do not occur in Safe Mode perform a clean boot and check.

    A clean boot is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs.

    Setting the system in a clean boot state will help to identify if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue.

    https://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135?wa=wsignin1.0

    Note:  After clean boot troubleshooting steps, follow the section “How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting” in the provided link to return your computer to Normal startup mode.

    Method 2: Repair the .Net Framework

    a) Click on start and choose **Control panel.**b) Choose Uninstall a program under Programs and Features.

    c) Click on .net framework 4.0 client profile and then click on Repair.

    d) Wait till the Repair process completes and restart the computer.

    Method 3: I would suggest you to scan the computer for malware.

    http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

    Note: Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.

    Hope this information is helpful. Please reply in case you have any issues. We will be glad to help you.

    I may have stumbled across a solution.  I had just run CCleaner and I noticed the Tools button on the Left.  I clicked on it, and I reached the uninstall tab.  I located the microsoft.NET programs on my PC, and I decided to try to uninstall them.  I was informed that I couldn't, since they are integrated in the operating system.  So then I clicked repair, and CCleaner told me that it would have to download some files to complete the repair.  The files it downloaded apparently included the file my PC needed, because when I rebooted the computer the problem was gone.

    You might want to give this a try.
