    Hi Les,

This issue might occur due to incorrect system file settings.

Let us follow these methods and check if this helps.

    Method 1.

You may reset the Internet Explorer settings to default and check if this helps.

    • Press “Windows key + R” to get the run window.
    • Type “inetcpl.cpl” and click ok to get the “Internet Options” window.
    • Click the “Advanced” tab and click “reset”.

Disclaimer: The Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature might reset security settings or privacy settings that you added to the list of Trusted Sites. The Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature might also reset parental control settings. We recommend that you note these sites before you use the Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature.

    Method 2.

You may run the SFC scannow tool and check if the issue persists. SFC /scannow is a super-useful command you can use in any Windows version. When the SFC (System File Checker) command is used with the /scannow switch, the tool will scan all of the important Windows files on your computer and replace them as necessary. Missing and corrupt operating system files (like many DLL files) are arguably the biggest cause of major Windows issues.

Refer to these steps to perform a SFC scan:

    a) Press Windows key + X, select Command prompt (Admin) to bring up elevated command prompt.

    b) In the command prompt type the following command: sfc  /scannow and press enter.

    c) After the scan, restart the computer and check if the issue persists.

Once the scan is done, restart the computer and ensure that the computer is up to date with the latest Windows Updates.

    I had the same issue.

It was Adobe Flash Player that caused the problem.  Removed it and all turned fine.

    Don't blame Microsoft for everything.

    :)

**Sad, here We go again with an '**MSHTML.dll' issue. This is July 2015 and for the past couple of weeks this problem has surfaced on my Computer as well. An Win7 64bit home version; Quad core, 8Gb mem., etc, etc.

Anyone remember having this 'dll' problem with previous versions of 'windows OS' ???

In MY opinion: the recommendations offered here by the 'trouble shooters' are so out of line - it is offensive!

To read so many having these issues STOP - be advised for every person posting a problem there are probably 4-5 that will not bother to post OR are realize there is no point taking u space and time asking the SAME QUESTION! Therefore the 'Techs. should ADJUST their 'help' accordingly.  With a variety of computer differences in software and hardware - one is left to wonder IF they even are thinking!

It is inappropriate to 'assume' an computer user is at 'computer 101'! Since the birth of computers....many have knowledge well beyond - SFC /scannow AND it is also inappropriate to have an Computer owner 'change' the settings on their computer which are settings built into or written to the computer software.

It is amazing one would advise a computer 'user' in this day & age of intrusions to instruct someone to circumvent 'protected mode'. It is laughable to refer this 'guidance' as a METHOD!!!!!!!!!!

Now that I have probably irritated some......

I built my fifth computer - purpose: just for music enjoyment! (have four others for business) A overbuilt system for just music. Being I ONLY check e-mail; make purchases from sites I trust ---- I was hesitant to install 'updates'. I let six months pass. I did NOT ADD anything. No problems arose peace for six months - not even an 'hiccup'! Then - I activated 'updates' - and tried to chose them based on the experiences of the 'advanced users' out there in Internetland - since then it is one annoying issue after another.

I'm 'guessing' there is a lot of issues with graphics and video.

In my opinion: Many of the problems 'users' have experienced are to  - some extent - NOT because of a virus; malware; and the other items the Kindergarten techs. assume or deny IS an issue with the OS, or IE  whatever but due to: Software developers and Web page designers are using top of the line computers - the bestest and the fastest. So what kind of experience do YOU Folks believe you will have - even now with your Win7 environment?! Your computer tries to function - (remember those cpu at 100% or 'taskhost' nightmares) - to  render, allow pretty web pages FULL OF VIDEO to work - using YOUR computers resources! Preventing YOU from using your own computer. What is it all about ----------ADVERTISEMENT. Remember when you wanted an answer to a question - using your computer as one would the Encyclopedia Britannica and the other large reference books all homes had? Now - all you get is offers to sell you something! They learned you may not peruse past the few 2-5 pages and took up the 'real estate' with their products. Hucksterism at its WORST! Huckster is an old people word  - sorry kids.

    I've said enough.

I WILL format my drive - put it back to the 'foundation' created by the items within the Win7 disc; the drivers and the few items of software written for Win7. Turn OFF updates - for GOOD!

As others have so eloquently said - this is an Microsoft problem. Many of us started with Windows 3.1; went to Win95; Win98 - SPx, Spxx; Windows Millenium; Windows XP - Sp2, then SP3 (I was able to get SP3 to work perfectly in spite of all the Folks that could not - even with Microsoft trying to help them) [ I liked XP] Windows Vista - what a turtle that was; now Windows7. I do not know what they were thinking when they created Win8????

I went back to paying a bill with a STAMP (don't trust computers anymore)- as for the cost of that stamp - I have the protection of the Inspection Service.

    Good luck to all!!!

    Hi Francis,

This error related to Internet Explorer could occur due to third party extensions on the computer. Mshtml.dll is a Windows system files.

When exactly does Internet Explorer crash? Is it while accessing any website?

Mshtml.dll is at the heart of Internet Explorer and takes care of its HTML and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) parsing and rendering functionality.

Let’s verify if add-ons are the cause of the issue. Follow the methods:

    Method 1:

Refer to the link to manage add-ons on Internet Explorer:

Refer to the section "Turning off and removing add-ons"

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/internet-explorer/manage-add-ons#ie=ie-11

From the same link, you may also check if disabling "Enhanced Protected Mode" resolves the issue.

Check if you still find the same error on the webpage. If yes, proceed to the next method.

    Method 2:

I would suggest you to check if the issue still persists in safe mode with networking. Follow the steps:

    Step 1:

Refer to the link to boot the computer in safe mode with networking:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows-8/dual-booting-boot-manager-boot-options

Check if Internet Explorer crashes. If not, proceed to the next step.

    Step 2:

Let's place the computer in a clean boot state and find out the cause of the issue.

You can refer to the link to place the computer in a clean boot state:

“How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8”

Refer to the section “Windows 8

You can refer the section “How to determine what is causing the problem by performing a clean boot” to check for the application or program that is causing this issue:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: Please refer section: How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot of the Kb article to boot the computer in normal startup after fixing the issue.

Please let us know if the issue still persists.
