    Hi,

Analog audio products such as your headset do not require drivers. They connect to your computers sound card. So the sound card settings need to be checked in case the microphone doesn’t work.

    Method 1:

You may run the troubleshooters from the below mentioned link and check if you can get to the exact issue.

Open the Recording Audio troubleshooter –http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Recording-Audio-troubleshooter

    Open the Playing Audio troubleshooter

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Playing-Audio-troubleshooter

    Method 2:

Step 1: Try using Windows Sound Recorder to test the microphone.

You can use this section to find out if the computer can record a signal from the Microphone and play it back. Use Windows sound recorder to create an audio file using the following steps:

    a)       Plug the microphone into the computer.

    b)       Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, and select Sound Recorder.

    c)       Click Start recording and speak into the microphone.

When finished recording, click Stop Recording.

    A save screen automatically opens.

Type a filename and click Save. A file of type WAV or WMA is created in the Documents folder.

If you can record the Audio using Microphone using the above method then the Microphone is working fine.

Now it should work any application that Supports Microphone. If the computer does not record audio using the above method then it could be an issue with the settings of the Microphone. Now verify the following settings.

    Step 2:

    Try enabling the Microphone.

    a)       Plug the microphone into the computer.

    b)       Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, and select Sound Recorder.

    c)       Click Start Recording and speak into the microphone.

    d)       Recording tab showing a detected signal for the Microphone device

Note: Microphone Icon should have Green check mark on it. If there is no Green check mark, it means it is disabled. If there is No green mark on Microphone it never works. To enable the Microphone Right click on Microphone and click on Enable. If you do not see the Microphone in the list, Right click on the White space and select Show disabled devices. Then you would see the Microphone. However, if you do not see the green check mark on it, Right click on it and click on Enable. And also Select Microphone and click on Set Default (If Set as default button is active).

If you see the Green check mark on Microphone the Microphone definitely works.

**Step 3:**Increasing Microphone Sensitivity and Un-muting the Microphone.

    a)       Select Microphone and click on Properties button.

    b)       Adjust the slider until to 100 % of its range.

    c)       If Mute is on, click the mute button to un-mute the device.

    d)       If Microphone Boost is available, boost the volume.

    e)       Click OK to make the changes.

    Now the Microphone should work.

I have this same problem. Astro A40s, no mixamp. WIndows 8.1.  The headset and mic work on other devices (iphone / ipad) including on the same computer when I'm in OS X. However, when i boot up in WIndows 8.1 the Astro A40s don't even show up in the device manager, so I cannot enable them.  The audio functions automatically, but not the mic. The only devices available are "Cirrus Logic" headphones and the "Line in."

Solutions I've tried (and failed to solve the problem):

-Checked all my connections (Audio out, Line in) and that Mic is not muted.

-Checked input levels (on the cirrus device).

-Running Windows Sound Recorder / Speech Recognition

-All the solutions listed in above posts.

-Uninstalling and re-installing all my audio drivers.

-Adding a new device and hoping it will find the A40s.

    -Reinstalling WIndows 8.1

I've looked around all over the web, and I see a lot of people having problems with their mics not working after the update to window 8.1, but I see no one saying solutions that work. It's not just an Astro problem. Everyone assumes this is a simple "turn your mic on, set as communication device, enable device, check volume and mute issue" and its not. The microphone and headset will not even show up as a device at all.

    Looking for a real solution!

I had this problem, and i did all the things said to do to fix this. They did not work. Maybe they did not work due to my problem, but the way i found that it worked, is to just unplug your Headset cord from your Astro mic, and plug it in.

i have also had the same problems, i've contacted astro on this as well. i've tryed everything from updating drivers, trying different programs, double checking all connections, to looking all over the place for y this is. and had tech ppl help me. as far as i can tell everything is set to the way windows want it done. i've spent a lot of money on my Astro a40 tr with mod kit, and i don't think there would be an issue but i did contact them as well. i do have one question cause my mic does work sometimes, could this be a simple windows program bug?

    Please help
