You don’t trick it into believing that the system is 32-bit. You trick AutoCAD 2000 into thinking that it is installing on XP or Win 2000 32-bit.

To do this, locate the SETUP file for AutoCAD 2000, right click and select ‘Troubleshoot compatibility

Acad 2000 is a 32 bit application.  It will run under windows 7 x64.  The problem is the installer (the setup.exe).  here is how to get it to run under Windows 7x64.

    1. Copy the contents of the CD to a temporary location on your Hard drive.
    2. Download this file and extract the setup.exe from it. http://toastytech.com/files/Is3Engine.zip
    3. Now go to where you copied the CD contents and replace the setup.exe with the one from the zip file.
    4. Now on this new setup.exe (it should be dated 10/25/2010), right click on it, chose properties.  Go to the compatibility tab and select "Windows NT".... then OK to exit properties.
    5. Now run this setup32.exe and it should install.
    6. Be sure to restart the computer after the install.

It might take it a few minutes to get going.  After the installation, you can delete the temp folder.

Hi, many thanks for the instructions. I now have AutoCad 2000 running on my Win7 64 bit.

I ran setup32.exe and got "Cannot create folder AutoCAD 2000", so I could not start my AutoCad 2000. Further, my Explorer would not find 'acad.exe' needed to start the program other than on my temp directory I was working from, so I assumed the worst.

However, the trick for me was to run a wild search in my root directory C:\ for all '*.exe' files. Explorer came back with 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ACAD2000\acad.exe', sorted, I could start AutoCad 2000 and  create a short cut for my desktop.

Many thanks again, and hope this helps...

After following the instructions, the installer did run, but I received an error message "cannot create folder acad 2000" and nothing was installed

The reason for the "cannont create folder AutoCAD 2000" is because the installer is trying to create a folder for the desktop icon at c:\Documents and Settings\all users......  You are probably trying to install on a Win7 or later OS and that folder is no longer valid.

The program will still be installed, you will just have to manually create the desktop icon to start ACAD.  To do that, just browse to the install folder (it asked you this during the prompts) and right click on the ACAD.exe file. Now click "Add to Task Bar" and that should get you going.

Just to verify that it is installed, go to the Control Panel >Programs and Features and look for a listing that says "AutoCAD 2000".

    K.
