VivoTAB TF600T Windows RT Win 8.1 Recovery Process >> SFC /scannow "Could not start the repair service"

Hi folks,

I am in the process of recovering this Tablet after a catastrophic failure from the latest 8.1 Patches.

I obtained a recovery Image which allowed me to perform a complete "Reset" of the operating system, through the Troubleshooting Menu.

The tablet still experiences failed boots after Resetting the OS several times.

From what I can see, my next step is to runt he System File Checker service.

However when I run this at the command prompt, I receive the following error:

Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service

What is my next step in the troubleshooting process ?

( Remember this is a Tablet, there is no DVD drive, no fresh copy of Windows )

All I have is the recovery image.

Any thoughts as to how I can get to the recovery image on the actual Tablet ???

It was protected by Bitlocker, which I do not have the key for...

Thanks

    Hi Folks,

I have found the answer to this question.

It relates the issue around Bootrec/scanos returns "0"

The BCD store must have the Windows home folder registered and the store must have the properly defined GUID.

I finally rebuilt my BCD store from scratch and both BootRec /scanos works & so does BCDboot /rebuildBCD

    Both see the windows installation.

When restoring your image, it important to save and restore the appropriate BCD store, otherwise you have to rebuild it from scratch in order to ensure that the GUIDs all match.

    Hi there Ravi.

The ASUS Tablet currently does not boot into Windows RT by itself.

It immediately goes to the screen that states " Windows ran into a problem, we are restarting your PC for you "

I have a USB Stick with a copy of Windows RT on it, which is getting me to a point where I can access the Windows Recovery Services.

In the Windows Recovery Services Menu, I chose all options to reset & refresh Windows Files.

Neither have resulted in the Tablet booting up by itself.

There is a partition on the Tablet that has the original recovery image.

When I run Disk Part I can see it.

Here is what I have tried as well:

There is a System File Checker utility, accessed via the Command Prompt.

    This is my next step.

    Tried to start sfc /scannow

Received Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service

    Ran ChkDsk /fC:

Windows has scanned the file system and found no problems

Failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50

    Ran BootRec.exe /scanos

    Total identified Windows Installations: 0

    BootRec.exe /Fixboot

    Successful

    BootRec.exe /rebuildbcd

    Total identified Windows Installations: 0

    When I run DiskPart

How do I get this recovery image over to my corrupted copy of Windows to get me to a point before the Win 8.1 patches ????

    Thanks

It was protected by Bitlocker, which I do not have the key for...

Are you sure?  I can't remember how it happened but I found mine E-mailed to me when I needed it.  And that was just to get into it in Command only mode.

    Hi Robert,

Yes, I know what you're referring to.

The issue is, this is a second hand unit, so it would be associated with the original Outlook account, not mine.

    :(

I really should have performed a Recovery Backup when I started using it.

    ( I should have known better )

At this point, I've been able to get past a repeat boot "repair Loop "

I finally have access to the Command Prompt.

I just need to figure out how to utilize the Hidden Recovery partition to bring her back to her former self.

    Hi Derek,

To have a clarity on the issue, please answer the following questions.

    1. Are you able to boot to the desktop when you say (The tablet still experiences failed boots)?
    2. How did you reset the tablet to factory settings as the tablet doesn’t has DVD drive?
    3. Where is the recovery image stored when you say (all I have is the recovery image)?

Also elaborate when you say how I can get to the recovery image on the actual tablet, it was protected by Bit locker, which I do not have the key for.
