Can someone please help me as I cannot get my laptop to move past Safe Mode.  The cursor was stuck so I plugged in a USB mouse, but the screen is black.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Tim

And if all you are seeing is a Cursor and a black screen with no Icons, Start Menu, etc, that is not Safe Mode

Did you run Startup Repair as I advised?

And there is no need to buy another Laptop.

Saving your files:

You can pull the Hard Drive and put it in a USB Hard Drive Enclosure > plug it into another Computer > and attempt to read and copy over your Data that way.

Or, you can download Knoppix > make a Bootable disk from it > Boot into your System with it (IF your Hardware is all working) > and copy your Data from the Hard Drive that way.

Hi,

Your question is confusing as Safe Mode does have a black screen, but you also say that your cursor was stuck, but the screen is black.

You do not say if you went to Safe Mode to do work on your System.

  1. Close any running programs and open Windows so you are back at the desktop.
  2. Click on the Start () button.
  3. In the Start Menu Search Box type msconfig
  4. Then press enter on your keyboard.
  5. The System Configuration utility will open
  6. Make sure Startup Selection is set for Normal Startup.
  7. Click on the Boot tab.
  8. Make sure  Safe boot is unchecked
  9. Press the Apply button and then press the OK button.
  10. Click on the Restart button to reboot your computer.

If above is not the problem:

Make your own System Repair Disk from the information in this Tutorial:

"How to Create a Windows 7 System Repair Disc"

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2083-system-repair-disc-create.html

"This will show you how to create a Windows 7 system repair disc to be able to use to boot to **system recovery options** to help recover your Windows 7 installation if you don't have a Windows installation disc, can't find your Windows installation disc, or can't access the recovery options provided by your computer manufacturer.

A system repair disc is not able to install Windows 7.

   Note

If you are unable to boot your Windows 7 to create a Windows 7 System Repair Disc, then you could create it on another computer to use on your computer."

Thanks for your reply.  The problem is when I start my computer, all it will do is stay in safe mode and show my cursor and a black screen. I will not allow me to see or move past this.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated as I need to either have my data removed or purchase another laptop.

    Thanks, Tim
